It was an unexpected suggestion to move up there and I am trying to weigh it up. I know its colder, I have never been there. Ever :o

The education system - does it differ to ours later on... ah hold on, I had a friend up there who was doing something similar but NOT GCSEs. I met her on holiday when I was a kid...

What's the price of childcare approx does anyone know?

They do Standard Grades and Higher Grades here instead of GCSE and A level. I'd say the private childcare costs were probably the same as England but again it will be area dependant as to whether there are nurserys.

Education pretty different - they sit Standard grades at 16 and Higher grades at 18, taking more subjects (I think 6??) at Higher grade.

Having spent 13 years on the west coast of Scotland, I do have to say, it was a fantastic place. Once I'd got accustomed to the midges ;)

Not that much colder, especially not on the west coast - west is warmer but a little wetter than the east.

At secondary school kids sit Standard grades rather than GCSE's and highers and advanced highers instead of A-levels.

Secondary school - starts at age 11/12 - 'first year' - goes right through to 6th year. 3rd and 4th year are when kids do their Standard Grades, and 5th and 6th year they can complete Highers or Advanced Highers. Or they can go to college to do an NC/HNC/HND.

    Yes it is :)

OK this will sound completely mental - but surely if you are an English resident, i.e. born in England then can you move to Scotland to go to uni for free??

The best thing is all the free money we get from the English (but don't tell anyone).
