Prescriptions are free next year I think it is, right now it's about £4, down from the £7'ish it was last year.

If you have young children, they are about to start a scheme (not sure if it's 100% and if it's in England too) that all children up to primary 3, get free lunches regardless of income.

That's Wales. It's the one to the left. We're the bit on top (;)) and don't get free 'scrips until next year.

Was based in Rosyth (just over the Forth road bridge) on HMS Cygnet (lates 70's) and HMS Brecon (late 80's). The place was a bit dire.

Have a relative based up at RAF Kinloss (Aberdeen way). The Highlands are great. So if you want to be a Crofter Dippy - well done me hearty.

It's like everywhere. Good bits and bad bits. The changes in the law shouldn't really affect you. Are you thinking of child custody laws in particular? If so I'd just read up on the things that would be specific to you.

I'm on the west coast and it's lovely. :D

Yes, but I hope your planning on moving to Scotland for reasons other than taking advantage of their alternate legal system ;)

eta. Free eye tests. Free (or almost free) parking at hospitals.

It was an unexpected suggestion to move up there and I am trying to weigh it up. I know its colder, I have never been there. Ever :o

The education system - does it differ to ours later on... ah hold on, I had a friend up there who was doing something similar but NOT GCSEs. I met her on holiday when I was a kid...

What's the price of childcare approx does anyone know?

Sorry, I wasn't being funny, but it depends on which bit of England you are moving from and which bit of Scotland you are moving to.

(I don't know Clydebank very well, but if you could afford the west end of Glasgow, it's quite nice there and reasonably close. There are also some nice towns not too far away, but someone from the West would provide better advice).
Without being horrible to anyone who lives there Clydebank is not one of the worst or the nicest areas in Scotland. This said it is not far from Glasgow (excellent shopping, good entertainment, good travel links etc) and also nice countryside and coastal locations too. If you worked in Clydebank you would not have to live there, as there are good transport links to surrounding areas. You could, for example, work in Glasgow, OH in Clydebank, and live somewhere in the middle. I'd say living in Clydebank/Glasgow area is similar to living in any large town/city in England tbh, except of course the education system, the house buying process and certain other legal differences. I'd also say the Scottish education system is better than England, and there is certainly less hassle with school placing etc. The house prices are not any higher than many areas in England, although it would depend on where you live exactly (not sure if you want to buy but gspc and sspc might help you regarding house prices. Not sure where to look re renting). This might help regarding childcare. This might help regarding education.
I grew up near Glasgow and have shopped in Clydebank, also know a little about the surrounding area (although not too much specifics about living in Clydebank). Do you have any more specific questions dippy ?
