Not that much !

I didn't say they were doing well as a company, but if they can sell two identical kitchen with one £3465 less than the other, that £3465 must be profit. Plus the profit made from the Howdens kitchen, as they must have made a profit on that one also!0

you can download the ikea kitchen planner from their website which is really easy to use. Its really good as it shows you a 3d picture as well as giving you a price. I planned my own kitchen then took it in store for them to check. They were really helpful and i did my kitchen for £800.

Do Ikea use standard sizes for appliances etc? I just remember years ago when I had a bed from them, the measurements were not the standard, which meant I had to get all my bedding from them as well. Do you know if you would have similar problems with their kitchens, ie if your oven broke would you have to get a replacement from Ikea?0 -
their unit sizes are 300ml 400ml 500ml 600ml and 800ml wide, they do not do a 1000 wide unit which most places do. if you have a 1000ml gap to fill you just need to put 2 500s in. The range of units is very good and the choice of door styles is also very good. there is a range to suit all budgets. The guarantee is the same whichever door style you buy. Most kitchen appliance are 600ml wide. I think they do some at 500ml, but you do not have to get the appliances from ikea. You just need to leave the relavant gap when planning your kitchen.Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....0

Thank you - as a matter of fact I will only need a sink and tap in terms of appliances, as we have had to replace the cooker and oven in our current kitchen already - got a nice Zanussi combo and expect to use that in our new kitchen! Same for washing machine and dishwasher - had to buy new of both as they died / were integrated in our old kitchen in the previous house. Washer-wise I invested in a Miele that will hopefully outlast even the new kitchen, LOL! In a way that's all good as it means that's over a grand we won't have to spend when we get our new kitchen, which will help the budget.
I have had it with integrated appliances. Standalone may not look as good but they're much better value for money.missk_ensington wrote:B&Q are very reasonable and you get a lot for your money, although I can't comment on quality as I never bought from there in the end, got it from Howdens
I think so too - the units look pretty good for the money. It's just that for once I wanted to do things the easy way and actually be treated nicely for a change - I am a big fan of John Lewis' customer service!0 -

I think the MFI vs. Howdens quote may be a bit off.
Howdens price will be supply only and will probably be Hygena carcasses.
MFI price will probably be delivered, fitted and possibly Schreiber carcasses.
For £7k - £9k have you looked at the new units that MFI are doing? They are trying to prove that they are capable of doing top end stuff and from what I've seen, they are good. So much so that when I move, budget allowing, I will be having one of the new ones.
Admittedly, my OH works as a kitchen designer for MFI so we will be getting a discount, but doesn't it make sense that if a designer won't have it in their own house then why should a customer?
All sales people have a certain amount they can play with and then go and see the manager for a bit more. I would never advise being awkward but never ever agree on the first price.0 -
Whits, I don't object to the quality of MFI units - but after hearing so many horror stories on the customer service from many different sources (online and offline) I must confess I am scared of them!0
