Cheapest car using scrappage scheme?

Simple question. What is the very cheapest car out there to buy brand new using the scrappage scheme?

Is it also true that the dealer won't offer any deals if you're going through the scrappage scheme?

The government scrappage scheme should not affect any deals the dealer otherwise provides.

    None the wiser so far...

For example, if I go by Whatcar they tell me that the price I should aim for for a Ford Fiesta Hatchback 1.6 TDCi Zetec 5dr is £12,616, the list price is £14,195.

With the scrappage scheme, I would be aiming for a price of 10/11k provided that they will offer deals with the sceme in place... Is this possible?

Well, everyone seems to think the Hyundai 10 is the best buy with scrappage.

Re deals, I should imagine this depends on the cost of the car originally. A £37k BMW is going to have more margin for the dealer than a £5k Hyundai.

Are you referring to my post or are you simply expressing an opinion on the fact it shouldn't affect any deals?

If it's my post, would you care to explain?

Well the Fiesta is not the very cheapest car Chris - it depends on what you want. The theory is that the dealers offer the scrappage off the list price, so you can but try to wheedle a bit more out of them.

Yeah it's not the cheapest, but I was just using an example ;)

I am looking at the Picanto 1.1. I looked at it a few years ago when I first started driving, but instead went for a second hand Micra which has suited me well for the past few years but is now reaching 110k miles and is due for it's MOT next month...

All I need is a car to get me to work and back, we have a Ford Focus for the heavy duty stuff ;)

The Picanto seems to suit my needs, plus it has a 3 year warranty if anything goes wrong. I guess I would need to do a test drive, but I am trying to weigh up cost Vs comfort/performance... Seems like it won't be very good for driving 20 miles each way on the motorway each day...

Here are details of the scheme.

    http://www.scrappage.org.uk/

As you see, the government contributes £1000 and the manufacturer (not the dealer) contributes the other £1000.
This shouldn't affect any other manufacturer incentives the manufacturer is otherwise giving the dealer, nor the cut in mark up the dealer is prepared to accept.
If there is no scrappage, the dealer doesn't get the £1000 incentive from the manufacturer.

Eventually the buyer ends up with a voucher to the value of £2000 which you can use against the value of a new car.

If you are in any doubt, simply go into a dealer and negotiate a straight purchase price with no part exchange. Once the price has been agreed, explain that you wish to take advantage of the government scrappage scheme (obviously ensuring beforehand that the manufacturer is one that has agreed to participate in the scheme)
