Could someone look at my reason for bankruptcy and let me know if it is OK?? Thanks
I split from my husband in July 2007 and became a single mum. I now support myself and my 3 year old daughter. Before I was married in 2004, I had debts in my name, a loan taken out in 2002 when I was in a previous relationship with a man who couldnt get credit and needed the money. I thought I would spend the rest of my life with this man so happily took out the £15k loan to help him out. He consequently left me and left me with this hefty debt. I have had to refinance the loan a few times as it was hard to manage, causing me to run up overdrafts and borrow from family, but until now, I have managed, even now that I am a single mother. Recently my benefits have all reduced considerably due to the new tax year as my previous years earnings had increased, so it leaves me hardly any money spare after priority expenditure. I have recently discovered that I was looking at a £51k debt for a mortgage deficit on a house my ex-husband and I had to voluntarily repossess. My ex-husband is bankrupt and will not be liable for any of the debt, so it falls to me. My parents have helped me out considerably, paying for shortfalls and setting me up in my home when I split from my husband. In total I owe them approximately £3000 for all the money they have had to lend me to get through the last two years. They cant lend me any more and now, with the reduced benefits, I can see no other option than to go bankrupt. I have Crohns Disease, which is exasberated by stress, so not having people chasing me for money every day will certainly give me a better quality of life.
