It's really brave of you to post your spending diary, even after all my time as a DFW, and having posted endless SOAs, I would still quake at the thought of my daily spending being scrutinised - well done you! :T

Thanks Snaggles! I think the reason is because I have got to the point where I can't earn much more, I can't cut back my bills and direct debits much more, so I need to address whatever it is that is still making me skint!

Which has to be, by default, my spending.....just the odds and ends which creep in.

I say every month "oh we should be fine this month" yet we get to the end of the month having struggled through.....yet I don't make any changes the following month.

So, I have to be shamed into thinking about my spending.....it is working so far - I could happily have bought ice cream or chocolate at lunchtime, but instead I knew I would have to declare it on here, so I stayed put at my desk instead :o

great idea, i keep my daily spending in a book and am quite shocked by the incidentals. i like the idea of the 'avoidable spending' and that is the idea of my book...

one thing i do do though is if i stop myself spending money on something i.e. really want a chocolate bar and don't buy it, or find a free car parking space instead of a car park, i put what i would have spent in a tin...hoping by the end of the year to have accumulated a fair bit, have no idea how much so far, not as much as would have liked though!

Didn't post yesterday as I was too tired by the time I eventually got home....

    Spends were:

    £12.50 for a ski file
£7.40 for a 10 trip bus ticket for the children to get to race training
£5.49 additional food drink while skiing (entirely avoidable)
£9.00 ski race entry fee for next weekend

(this ski lark is expensive, even in summer, but to offset it I sold a pair of ski trousers for £20 which DS had grown out of!)

Total spends for 2nd June - £34.39
Total spends for June - £114.77

Of which entirely avoidable - £7.29.

Hiya Hypno, what a great idea! I may well steal your idea for my diary :o Especially love the avoidables bit! I will be reading with interest

    Good luck

    Right.....spend spend spend.......

Today on ebay's "deal of the day" there were argos clearance DAB stereos -perfect size for the childrens rooms, and an ideal Christmas present to put away for them.

They were £23.99 each and I got 10% off with an ebay voucher........and I decided to get one for the kitchen too :o

In total (and including free postage too!) it came to £64.77 - not bad for three stereo systems!

Of those, I will count two as necessary spending, as I have to buy them a present sometime, so if I can do it now, and put it away, it will save me spending more later. But the third was really unnecessary so has to go down as avoidable spends....:o

A girl at work is doing a long sponsored cycle ride at the weekend for the British Heart Foundation - so £10 given for that. Not entirely necessary, but a good cause and a lot of effort from her, so I don't know whether to count that as unavoidable

£5.45 for DD bus fare to college - it is a rip off, but I am embroiled in a battle with county hall to get it refunded. However, until then, it is a necessary expense.

But still no spending on lunch or coffee, no chocolate or sweets bought.....so I am trying hard here!

    Total spent today - £80.22
    Total for June - £194.99

of which £28.88 is entirely avoidable

Aargh, that charity spend is a tough one. And since I'm often to be found carrying my little CD player from room to room, cos the main stereo is in the living room, I *entirely* understand about the kitchen stereo. Are you going to use it before Christmas?

I will use the kitchen stereo as soon as it arrives - I love having music on in the house, so it will be well used. The children won't know about theirs until December, though.

    Hiya Hypno
Doesn't it scare you how much money gets spent! I'm doing a spending diary and it's up to £419 already!!! With two bags of dog food at £50 a bag - it lasts 6 weeks, my shoes literally fell apart so I needed a new pair, AA renewal (phoned up and got 25% reduction) and car tax budgeted for it makes me:eek::eek::eek:. Oh well, back to trying to show how chocolate is a necessity! :rotfl:xx
