Hi,
I have an extended insurance policy with Tech Guys. There was a problem with my laptop so they have taken it to be repaired. They have got it for 3 wks now but there system is still showing as being allocated to an engineer.
I spoke to Customer Service today and the gentleman said that 3 wks are over tomorrow and under my contract I am entitled to a replacement. He said he will place notes and to phone back. Has anyone else had this sort of dealings with Tech Guys and is this true?
Thanks
MS

There is definitely a cutoff time where you can choose a replacement. If CS says it's three weeks then I don't see why it shouldn't be. Maybe their ludicrous fee includes insurance which makes it easier for them to claim against rather than fix the thing.0

Whatever you do, do not let them off the hook - did you note times/dates of all your contacts with them, and hopefully a name of who you spoke to ?? Chase them every day until you get your result............Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple0 -
What the others said. PC World ... they misleadingly sold me a new PC last year stating it had a 'DVD rom/rewriter' as basic ... until it gets delivered and there is no such thing. So, out come the old DVD drives from my last PC ... yes, I know some will be saying 'take it back' but I didn't want the hassle and ... am still considering whether to report PC WORLD for misleading advertising because the same PC (was) is on their website advertising the same when it's not. But I can't be bothered to. So, kept the PC as needed it, installed the drives myself.
Push for a replacement as they've 'agreed' to it on the phone. Hold them to it, as it is in their own contractual obligations. They'd certainly hold you/us to it if the other way around.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

yes i have had this with them just two months ago
ive just guided another poster lee2009 on the consumer rights board in the same situation
and yes basically 21 days after your first phonecall to book the repair, you may request the item to be written off
you will then have to wait approx 2 weeks whilst some douche values your product (usually wildly undervalued) and they send you vouchers which can only been instore by you with id to prove who you are
now this is where you correct any unvalueing made earlier as you are entitled to a replacement on a spec for spec basis not price, they can then approve additional vouchers there and then so you can buy a replacement
any other questions?Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

well for you issue you have no rights
you have not reported the problem so have accepted the goods as they are(you have had a reasonable time to "inspect" the pc so any apparent faults there from start cannot be claimed uppon)
as for the op's case there is no holding them to it
they gladly offer the service with no resistance
however the after process is rather tiresomeBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -

People don't know any better, simple as that....
PCW's tech people are mostly school leavers and graduates, they've not got a clue what they're doing. Most have zero experience and are thrown into a job they can't do.
Many aren't even interested in IT, it was just something they did to get into uni.
One of the main goals of my business is to break the back of the current IT retail/repairs environment, getting your PC fixed should not be as hit and miss and finding a decent garage to fix your car without ripping you off. And this is EXACTLY what I compare the retailers and a large number of independent specialists to. It needs to stop!!“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

According to a friend of mine, PCW have a company policy of refusing to give references when employee's leave and giving private references will get the person disciplined or worse. I wouldn't work there unless I absolutely had to, not after what i've heard.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”
