Just thought I'd say a nieghbours cat creeped in through my cat flap over christmas and sprayed my daughters suede and faux fur yettie type boots. They are suede on the entire foot area and long fur around the legs. The smell gassed the entire house out! we couldnt work out exactly where it was coming from at first just knew it was the hallway but eventually realized it was her boots! She loves them so I thought the only thing to do would be to first rinse them in the washer then I took them out and smeared neat concentrated stardops all over the suede foot area but not on the fur part then put them straight back into the washer on a 40 wash. They were really dirty even before the cat did this though, all black and shiney dirt all around the feet, they are light biegh colour so looked terrible. I was a bit worried in case the fur would mat up or the suede would crack or fade but they have come out amazing and like new! I did put concentrated fabric softener in the final rinse too. I then left them over the radiator to dry. They really are like new shes really happy with them :)
    Thanx

bought mine at the weekend. Desperate to use it but trying to use up all the other cleaners I have first.

Is it best used neat or diluted to clean tiles and grout in the bathroom? and some of the silicon sealant stuff in my shower is looking a bit patchy. Will stardrops clean it up? Tried various mould and mildew cleaners but nothing shifts it.

Some people find neat Stardrops good for bathrooms, others haven't found it so good. Starclen seems to be better.

You can try it on the sealant, but unfortunately, once silicone sealant starts going, it gets to a point where the only thing to do is take it off and renew it.

Mould and mildew - Try tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil. About a tablespoon of oil in hot soapy water and wash down. After that, keep a spray bottle of the mixture in the bathroom and spray before a shower, and every few days to keep it away. Be careful with it of course as it's strong stuff and some are allergic to it. I usually tackle with gloves on. Vinegar is usually good on mouldy marks too. If it's stubborn use an old toothbrush to help shift it. Other option is Bleach, same idea but also a gloves on job and make sure wearing old clothes.

I use stardrops diluted in a squirter for the bathroom, bit of bicarb if there is anything nasty to be removed.

  • I just got my bottle today (online shopping at ASDA) and had a bit of a giggle because the bottle states prominently that it contains Bitrex... my OH (analytical chemist) did some work on producing Bitrex. It's the most bitter substance on earth, apparently, and scientists are a curious lot, so one of the girls in the lab put some on her finger and tasted it. She (of course) screwed up her face and ran about yelling about how awful it was, so every one else in the lab promptly followed her suit and tried it themselves! It's really awful, apparently.

On topic, I've used it already for all my surfaces and they look great! I thought the Flylady thing about shining your sink was silly, but this makes it really easy.

Now, do you think I could use a very diluted amount to wash the filter on my hoover? It is washable, but the instructions are to just rinse it in warm water. Am I going overboard in my newfound enthusiasm?

What's your filter made from? My bagless cleaner has two filters - a sponge and a sort of plastic bit with a white fabric-y filter stuck to it. I just stick them in a laundry net bag and bung them in with a dark wash.

So you don't void warranty I would follow what the manufacturer says with the filters.

  • Hm, much better idea. Will do!

ETA: Mine looks like it's made out of some sort of fabric, but v. similar to coffee filter paper, and it's arranged in an accordian style (vertical slats) around a cylander.
