Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding you here but it seems to me you can happily overlook the bigger picture about the state the country is in (which you are part of and therefore affected by), to focus on one particular instance where you feel you've been helped? With respect, isn't that a little narrow minded? I wonder how many other voters vote with one thing in mind only?

This "one particular instance" was of great importance to us. We stood to lose a five figure amount. Yes it does outweigh the bigger picture in this instance as far as we are concerned. However I wouldn't say we're happy to overlook it. "Feeling" we've been helped does not describe it at all. We are indescribably grateful.
I should also add that we did not expect to be bailed out, we took our chances and expected to suffer the consequences.

We all must make decisions that we are comfortable with, but I find it hard to understand how someone could place gratitude for one instance, higher than concern for all the other wider issues that Government affect us with. Each to their own though, I respect your right to your own beliefs.

Of course the OP could indeed be genuine. And of course the OP could also be so epically naive as to believe "the Government" has a pot of money that it hasn't obtained from the taxpayer.

For information on where this bailout money comes from please read post 31.
By the way, I think my post timing was perfect.

I wouldn't be surprised if Gordon Brown bailed out those who invested in Icelandic Banks for this very reason.............win win situation really - he gets the votes of people who are grateful for his 'help' and he doesn't get to pay for it - we poor mugs do.

Brown mis-managed the economy, and when a foreign business went under, he stole our childrens and grandchildrens money to bail them out.
    Yep -a definite vote-winner!

Actually no, the money came from a levy on banks which obviously comes from banks customers. The children's etc (presumably you mean taxpayers) money went to Barclays etc. Sorry to quote facts that may not support your point of view.

I used to proudly vote labour, and was over the moon when they got in, how wrong and totally ashamed I am now. NEVER AGAIN! As A non vote automatically counts as a vote for current Government, it seems to me theyre all as bad as each other............ Ukip here I come :D

    Gratitude ?

Ask your grandchildren. They're the ones paying for your bailout.

They may also be the ones inheriting their grandma's savings!
