The cashier, imo, did the right thing by calling the security guard over - You showed opposition when she said you can't have the item, which indicates to her that you may become aggressive. What do you thing Mr. T would rather? A Security Guard standing by the door watching people, doing not alot or this Security Guard helping to prevent any kind of anger or aggression towards staff?
yes i know that but the cashier was the one raising their voice and being rude, not myself so i found it very insulting
fair engough if i was being aggresive but i wasntBack by no demand whatsoever.0 -
a student card isnt valid ID or it isnt in the big supermarkets eg sainsburys, the valid ID is a passport, drivers licence and a prove your age card
yes o know but i get sold alcohol their regularly, she had served me but 3 weeks before
i never get id'd
and all of a sudden a scratch card and lottery requires full proof id whereas alcohol doesnt
theres no common sense in that!Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

well maybe the assistant for the lottery was more following the rules than the 1 who sold the alcohol0 -

I hate it when people get all annoyed about being asked for ID on the basis they have showed me it before. I serve 100s of different customers each day, I can't be expected to remember everyone that I have seen ID from. Eventually if you come in regularly enough I will probably remember you and won't ask but I can't be expected to remember everyone.0 -

i dont expect her to remember
im questioning her consistency
she didnt ask for id for alcohol but i must of looked under 16 for the lottery to her
as far as im aware the under 25 rule aplies only to alcohol does it not?
and anyways i look no where near 25
thats why i got so annoyed

Think 25/21 applies to all age restricted products. Even Certificate 12 DVDs should have Think 21/25 applied but in those cases most of the time common sense is used but the company line will be that Think 21/25 should be applied.0 -

mmm still
as you said
a bit of common sense wouldnt of gone a miss
i mean would you serve someone id without asking and then ask someone who looked an identical age for id for the lottery
or would you ask both? maybe neither?Back by no demand whatsoever.0 -

I rarely ask for ID for lottery unless they look around 16/17 so I probably wouldn't ask if hadn't asked you for ID for buying alcohol. You never know the circumstances behind it though, the store may have been having a crackdown after being caught or the cashier may have been fined or know someone who had just been fined and had become more vigilant.
I also believe Camelot send people in to buy lottery tickets who are over 16 but under 18 to ensure that ID is being asked for. It could be that the store had failed one of these tests and although ultimately nothing would happen to the store as they hadn't done anything illegal they would be putting pressure on the staff to make sure they are asking for ID.0 -

You approached the check out together and thus she is selling to both of you. she would be commiting an offencce if you or her were under age and thus can ask for ID. It is also the case if it was a 15YO son Id could be requested.
If you were there on your own she could sell and it would be you commiting the offence by passing it on. not her.
So I I turn up with Foster Brat and buy a four pack of real beer, (not a lager drinker), if the spotty moldoon of the check out operater inferred this, she'll have to go and run and stuff the whole shop back on the shelf.
2 It is not illegal to give an underage person a drink. Children from 5 and upwards can do so with supervision.

I send my 17 year old son to sit on the seats past the checkouts when I'm buying wine at Tesco, so that they don't think he's with me.
He doesn't even like wine.
:rotfl:I assume beer would be preferable to wine for him then?I would love to use that as a reason why someone with me shouldn't be ID'd, can you imagine their faces?
