A lot of my closest pals are into the heavy music just like me so some of them have full sleeves etcetera and I have none and no piercings either,. One of my American female friends has almost everything tattooed including her legs. And she's a nurse. But I don't want them although I can appreciate that some of my friends' work is truly beautiful and I reckon the reason is my upbringing: my mother always said that only a certain type of woman has tattoos and I never aspired to be that type, even though these days having a tattoo
is hardly edgy when even middle-aged gals have tramp-stamps. I think I'm in danger of becoming edgy by default by not having any.
Getting a tattoo isn't about being edgy. If that's your reason for getting a tattoo, you don't deserve to have one! People who scar their bodies for life to please others are making a huge mistake - others will lose interest but they'll be left with it for life.
I don't have any tattoos either - because I can't decide what to get. I change my mind too often and would hate to get something that bores me after a few months. My boyfriend's tattoos are absolutely fascinating pieces of art and mean something to him and me. If you have a great tattoo and love it, it doesn't matter what other people are doing.0 -
I think I'm pretty unfake (if that's a word). I use makeup but not all the time, and although I occasionally pluck my eyebrows I don't have either the budget or inclination for eyebrow/eyelash colouring. I have had my hair dyed in the salon but I was disappointed with my last visit so I'm considering either leaving it or doing it myself.
I don't use fake tan and I've had acrylic nails once and disliked the feel, and I don't like the look of them. I do shave my legs and underarms and trim other areas but I'm not that hairy and I admit that I probably don't do it so much in winter. I agree with B&T, I don't actually think that it matters that much if there's no one to see it.
I hate having big boobs, so if I was to have any cosmetic surgery it would be a reduction to an a or b cup. At the moment though I am hoping that losing weight will reduce them, if that doesn't work then it's definitely something I would consider, although the scarring doesn't appeal to me.0 -
What type would that be, then?
Oh, I thought I'd made that quite clear when I admitted that I thought that an antipathy to tattoos were an age thing as well as a class one. I didn't say that I necessarily thought it was right but I have to admit that the sort of women (you really couldn't describe them as ladies) that my mother had in mind were the ones who always had bleached hair, often a tooth or more missing and hung around with the sort of blokes you'd probably avoid on a dark night. Is that clear enough for you?0 -
I think there's a lovely sisterly cameraderie on this board, esp around the beauty and fashion topics that I've enjoyed reading and posting on. I do find it a relaxing and fun way to pass a bit of time, especially at the end of the day. Unlike other boards where you sometimes feel you have to carefully measure every single word you post for fear of sniping responses.
I enjoy the fact we're all obviously different individuals here , ages, shapes, sizes, styles occupations and so on but posting tends to be harmonious, supportive and non judgemental.
I don't think the ladies who've posted on this thread need for 1 minute to justify or defend what they do or don't do. Nor should this enjoyable thread degenerate into rights and wrongs. That would be for a differently titled thread and TBH I don't think I could be bothered to argue it!!

I'm with Glowgirl on this. It's interesting to know how others keep themselves groomed. Blokes can't possibly understand when perhaps the height of their maintenance may be a quick squirt under the armpits and then turn their pants inside out
We all have choices and quite clearly some ladies choose to stay very natural so big up to you girls too. Men, when we really want your opinion, we will certainly ask for it, until then, go and wash your shreddies0 -

You're right Bronnie - apologies if I got a bit heated! I feel quite passionately about stereotyping and forming preconceptions without looking at the full picture, but everyone is entitled to an opinion and maybe I was a bit quick to rush in!0 -

First time I've browsed this thread...very interesting it is to!
I don't think I'm a "fake" but my enhanced bits are:
St Tropez all-over fake tan (unless it's sunny or I'm in India)
Semi-permanent eyebrows
Lashings of eyeliner, blusher, lip gloss and eyeshadow....but never foundation!
Very long (not extensions) natural blonde hair dyed rock chick black
Nose stud
Pierced belly button
Pierced ears
Tattooed back
And a total hip replacement! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

goanmads list reminded me that I had semi permanent eyebrows and lip liner (in a very natural colour) done years ago when it first became popular, my friend did the course to learn how to do it and I was one of her 'models' for her portfolio, it did look nice but I wouldn't have it again mainly because I don't actually need it and the cost involved (she did it for free).Thank you for this site MartinThe time for change has comeGood luck for the future0 -
