I'm not convinced over this, more pain for ordinary families is coming I think. If some people are right and interest rates go up, then more people who are in debt (and lets face it there are enough of them) are going to be in trouble. Unless credit lending increases, they are going to be in more trouble as they come to move their debt.
I don't see how it can get better unless we carry on the same spiral of debt that we had before.

would bet that, by now, there are a few nervous people around who enjoyed banging on about 50,60,70% drops at the start of the year

    Why nervous ?

Are people who make incorrect guesses taken outside and shot in the back of the head

There has been 17 months of steep falls, do you really expect this to continue forever?

No of course I dont expect this to continue for ever

A major recession being over and done with in 12 months would be quite an achievement though

Sorry i have to do it

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I thought 2009 was going to be a bad year? 5 months in and 2009 is showing positive on the Nationwide scale:p

Generali, how can this be noise? 5 full months into the year and things have not moved by much at all? Interest rates, QE?

Where's Dopester, Mewbie, RDB, Brit1234, GD, Carol, FoxtonsRIP, the military officer chap mb9fa? pizzagirl, and around another 300 or so bears that i have missed out;)

Dont miss the boat people, you have been warned;)

    2009 to be armageddon:D

Yeah, cos after 17 months of steep rises, HPI stopped immediately.

17 months being an important Fibonacci number in relation to House Prices

I still expect house prices to fall further

to around an average of £140k - £145k

it would then be nice if they stayed at this level for 5 - 10 years

so we can have a bit of stability in the market
