This forum never fails to crack me up with people clinging onto glimmers of hope. We are in a major recession, with the worst arguably still to come. How on earth can house prices fight against such forces and continue to increase?
well they seem to be - which is a FACT...
you're just hoping that they will crash - they may or may not, we can only assume.
Dan is dealing in facts here you're talking assumptions0 -
Does anyone actually care about monthly figures anymore? Everyone, bar estate agents, knows house prices are very much downward for a looooong time.
Exactly, I have a v large deposit for my first house, no way will I be panicked into buying befor next year.. ALthoguh i guess it depends on your circumstances to a degree ..0 -
It will be even more interesting when Halifax posts another drop...0

Incorrect. I'm not hoping for anything!!!
Are you disputing that we are in a major recession?
Are you also stating you expect house prices to recover, even in todays circumstances?
funny how anyone who (honestly) feels that these figures are a small blip on an otherwise downward trend is ridiculed as "not dealing with facts" and "hoping for a crash""For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Those who don't understand, dont matter."0 -

nope - the only point that i'm disputing that they are up this month.
they may be down next month and the next month after that.
your point seems to be that because we may be ina recession house prices won't rise - they just have. just for a couple of months though0 -
You do realise that any second now you're about to have StevieJ, chucky, ISTL and Dan: all jump on you in quick succession over that very bearish comment, right? :rotfl:
This forum is so predictable-
Monthly house price index = drop = StevieJ, chucky, ISTL, Dan: "MoM is simply noise"
Monthly house price index = rise = Generali, AD9898, A444downey, Devon bloke, dopester: "MoM is simply noise" (with dopester adding "and all house owners are scum")

Yes, we are in a mojor recession, but if you watch the news on a daily basis, you would be aware that the wrost is over. Sure, there will be more unemployment to come - this is always the last thing to recover as firms take advanage of the 'recession' status.
There has been 17 months of steep falls, do you really expect this to continue forever?0 -

I dont deny the figures. I just merely made an observation that longer term, given the economy etc etc...I would still see a downward trend."For those who understand, no explanation is necessary. Those who don't understand, dont matter."0 -
It's Spring. Prices have moved marginally higher based on a very small sample.
Next month the nights will start to draw in. The days will be shorter and Nationwide will be reporting 1% - 2% falls for each month from August 2009 to March 2010.
Next year at this time, prices will be 10% lower than today. We'll have had a General Election and the Monster Raving Loony Party will occupy Downing Street - or worse still, the Tories.
