to the OP, reed & monster, afaik, are just listing sites, carrying posts from employers and agencies...
its up to whoever posted the ad to follow up submitted cv's and the like.
i have been trying to sort a techy query with reed.co.uk for ages (my old a/c there vanished, with no warning). and get nothing back from all online enquires.
currently waiting response to a letter(!) sent to head office..Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
It was also VERY easy to 'Fall out' with the consultants, If you rejected them then they wouldn't ring you for about a week.
Then if you let them down even once or still declined a job, They binned you for life!!
And sometimes if the consultants had 'Friends' working for other agencies they would 'blacklist' you as well.
People talk!!Thomson 757 Man0 -

Thats very true. They can be quite stroppy and very rude.
Alot of them are co-owned though. I know Reed has a few under different names. Manpower and Brook Street are the same company. And opthers I cant remember now.I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:0 -
And if you had any 'Upsets' in the workplace the agency would ALWAYS be on the client's side.
Not you the Temp.
I had 1 or 2 minor arguments/disagreements and the client would ALWAYS ring your agency when you were on lunch or after you had gone home!!
On one assignment I had left to go home, I got home and my wife said X had rung and told me NOT to go back to X place tomorrow!!
Crazy!!
Why didn't they tell me to my face?Thomson 757 Man0 -
Because they dont care. They have alot of candidates that they can send anywhere. They're more worried about their commission(sp?) than you.
I walked out of one place due to the person at the agency blatently lying to me. Telling me is was x ammount, and x hours. When I got there it wasnt. She said "Oh well, you're there now, may aswell stick it out". No chance.
I really hate agencies now.I know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:0 -
I found out afterwards the 'Silly' excuse they used to tell the agency to send a replacement was = He was talking too much!!
Yes I was but I was working at the SAME time!!
Some people can work & talk at the same time, People (Employers) get it into their minds that you are not working when you are talking = WRONG!!
Why didn't they tell me that to my face, The I wouldn't have spoken a word.Lol!!
Like you say they don't care 1 bit.Thomson 757 Man0 -
lol. I know. When you're a temp, you're low, expendable etc etc. You know how it is. They should of told you, but they probably didnt want the hassle, instead probably getting someone else in the next day, having to train them again etc etc. When it just would of been easier to talk to you.
Ive still got some friends I made through temping, but I wouldnt do it again if I had the choice.
They sent me to a caravan one time. Someone was running their business out of it. No face to face with customers, but still had to wear office atire???? My shoes and pants got ruined as it was muddy. Oh the life of a temp eh, lolI know my spelling is shocking  It is alot better than it used to be though :rotfl:0 -

Reed is a slight exception, they are a proper recruitment agency BUT they have a job board on the side.
On they recruitment arm they have a few different divisions for specialised industries, as well as local offices for the more general stuff.
Recruitment agencies post non-existant jobs to use rather dubious and illegal techniqies to get more business.
at a base level they just want your CV so they have a bigger database of people and when they go to companies they can say they have X number of people on file.
more nasty techniques are more pushed at the temp/contractor market, ie they want your referenecs so they can phone up all your previous bosses to see if theres any work going. and there have been a few cases of agencies to trying to get you fired so they can put their own candidates into the position.
Its a cut throat industry really, the bigger ones are usually ok, but theres a million smaller ones competing for not a lot of busniness atm...0
