Nuninge, It was me who said about the smell! It wasn't a horrible smell, it was like mild pot-pourie.

I have a real sensitive nose and a lot of perfumes smell peppery to me. Can't even go into places like Bodyshop or that "soap" shop" as it makes me choke.

My friend said there was just a hint of a "scent" but it was strong to me.

I went onto Pampers website and apparently it's to do with the chemicals they put into disposable nappies and they are one of the worst brands for this, going by the comments on the forum on there. Checked some others I had made with different brands and there was less or no scent.

I used to roll mine and put those tiny "hair" bands round but have now gone onto swirling instead. I must say though, I prefer them rolled and the cake is firmer.
There was no difference regarding "scent" whether rolled or swirled.

All my cakes are kept in a warm bedroom - in fact i thought that might have something to do with it - thought the warmth had caused a chemical reaction as on the website, it said they should be kept in a "cool" temperature.

Anyway, I was just over-reacting, am a perfectionist so what can I say!:rotfl:

I also use a paper tube in the middle of my cakes. Have made them that way from the beginning as nothing moves when they are built.

I don't use any elastic bands at all - just tie round each Tier with curling ribbon when I have got them all straight.

Janey21, Primark have changed their blanket design. They now have a gorgeous cream one,:T a pink and white spot one (think it looks grubby):( and a blue dog one that looks like it should be in a dog basket.:rotfl:

Appoligies to anyone who has bought them, it's just me!:p

Managed to get the last of the yellow ones. (Said I wouldn't buy any more yellow as they are not a good seller but needed them to go with some toys I have) Hope I am not going to be left with them.

I have done in the past yes, but lately no. Primark's organic cotton flannels are lovely and a good price. Unfortunately you get what you pay for and if people want designer goods in a cake then they have to pay the appropriate price, after all there is a lot of time and effort goes into these cakes.

Thank you ladies for your responses regarding the rolling of nappies. Where do you get the little clear hairbands from that you mentioned? Also I have seen some swirled nappies but have as yet to find a tutorial on this. Could anyone direct me to one please?

    Thanks, Nuninge

Yes I was wondering about swirling nappies too. As for the bands you can buy them in most pound shops. Although I buy the coloured ones as I usually put in 2 different sizes of nappies and not all brands print the size on them.

    Here's my latest creation, a 3 tier.

I swirl my nappies now and my cakes are just as solid as when i rolled the nappies but far less time consuming!
As for bands when i did roll them i used horse plaiting bands like the ones below from a local saddlery.

    Hi Giggle
I don't use Primark clothing at all but I did love the baby soft blankets, they were good value for money at £3.50 and were actually quite good quality even nicer than the ones from the wholesalers, unfortunately they have now changed the design on them and although the pink and the white are lovely the blue one looks like a dog blanket, I couldn't believe it when I saw it lol, sorry if any of you girls like them...... I preferred them plain.... ah well gotta source some more now. :D
