I would be more upset as the buyer of the gift than the maker.

For the new Nappy Cake makers - well done! they are lovely. :T

For mildred1978 - the cakes are supposed to be a practical alternative to the old fashioned Baby Layette.

You can't possibly please everyone and what one mum wouldn't be without, another never uses. "Different strokes for different folks" as they say.

As for disposable Nappies, the majority of mums use them and it wouldn't be practical to offer "real nappies " because of the costs involved. Don't forget, a lot of these cakes are bought as a gift (after a collection at work) for a Mum to be going on Maternity leave.

Fair enough if you don't "get" it but, I hope you weren't as ungrateful when you recieved it.

OK here goes Will stick my neck out and say what i am thinking..

Selfish....VeRy selfish,. to think that the person who bought you the cake could have just walked into a dept store blindfolded and picked up a gift...or bought a voucher without moving off the sofa'......instead they asked somebody to hand create a gift for you using what most mummies would require for a baby......

From a successful, busy nappy cake creator to an ungrateful mum.

It was bought from a market by my mother in law a month after my baby was born. So she knew (and chose to ignore) that we were using cloth nappies and that my baby refused to take a dummy. She might as well have bought a load of bottles and formula (breastfed baby) for all the use they were. So she wasted her money lining the pockets of the "nappy cake creator" for the sake of buying 'something'.

I'd rather have had nothing than fall over a bag of useless nappies and other (cheap) tat for 9 months (and counting).

I'd never heard of that before!

True. Just not something I'd ever buy for anyone. Way too many assumptions for me.

But how can you know which brand a mum will use when the baby arrives?

That makes a little more sense, but I'm still not sure how you'd know what should be in it as you don't know what brands mum and baby will like. (Mine had those vile Johnsons toiletries in it that I wouldn't put anywhere near my LO. I managed to get rid of those.)

No. Luckily we don't see much of my husband's family, so they wouldn't notice that barely any of it got used.

    Brilliant cake sweetpea!!!

How much are you charging for it?

I've just put my prices up.. I can't justify charging anything less than £30 for a 3 tier now!

Popped into asda and there blankets which used to be £3, are now £3.50! So annoying!!!!

Ah, thanks Liz, I haven't got a buyer for it yet as haven't done any advertising yet, but I will be charging £25 as I managed to get everything at really good prices and I should still be making around £10. I worked out that if I had bought everything at full price then the cost would be around £22 so I think that £25 is a good price plus it gives me a good profit too, so buyer and seller win!

I really don't get these nappy cakes. I was bought one when my son was born. It was full of size 3 disposable nappies (we use reusables), dummies (baby wouldn't take one), hairbrush and comb (baby is 10 months old now and I've never used them). Only things that have been useful were a couple of blankets and a flannel. Vouchers would have been a better present.

If anyone wants a bag of rolled up size 3 nappies, let me know. I'm sick of falling over the damn things.

If you don't like them and don't "get them" then why are you bothering to read and post on this thread?

If you have had them that long and there rolled there no good to anyone now so just bin them and be done with it then they wont be in your way no more

I read your comments and the comments of the other ladies.

Firstly I think you are very ungrateful, it was a gift which someone took the time and effort to buy, I am sure you would be there shouting from the rooftops if no one bothered to buy a gift.

Secondly, I *get* that she knew you were using cloth nappies, so yes I understand that it was pointless for you, but is there any need to come on here moaning and saying that you dont get them. I used disposable nappies for my son, my dad and step mum bought me a massive box full of nappies and essentials, and I loved it and found it very thoughtful. With my daughter, I chose a mixture of cloth nappies and disposables, most young mums (and old) are not as aware about the cloth nappies as they are disposables.

The comment that your baby refused to take a dummy ... sorry but to know this you must have tried to give it a dummy therefore maybe she felt she was doing right.

I spotted your comment about *vile johnsons toiletries* Johnsons are one of the major suppliers of baby products in the UK, each to their own, just because you wont use them on your baby, there are a damn site more parents who do use them and appreciate them.

As for the bag of rolled up nappies, give them to a friend or chuck them in the bin, they are useless now!! saves you the hassle of tripping over them, but surely you would have thrown them by now anyway as they are such a pain being in your way, unless you are saving them incase you may need them!

The comment about cheap tat, I agree some nappy cake companies do use cheap tat, however do not tar us all with the same brush. I do not use cheap tat in my cakes, I use the same style of items and sometimes better items in my cakes than I would use on my own children.

I am pretty sure you only posted your comment to get the backs up of the people who take pride and effort in creating these cakes. I have been doing it over 2 years now, I get orders weekly and ALWAYS good feedback, my cakes are neat, tidy and not full of cheap tat! I rarely use toiletries in my cakes as I feel brands are a preference, but when I do use them it is at the customers choice of brand.

Lets hope your husbands family don't see your post and realise how ungrateful you are, after all you may not get any presents if/when you have more children, if it was me, I would make the cheapest nastiest looking nappy cake and fill it to the brim with cheap tat and make sure I hand delivered it to you :D mainly to prove a point!

Keep up with the good work ladies, your cakes are fab and welcome to the newbies.

Please also remember that items are going up in price, but please don't revert to cheap tat that you would not use on your own children just to make a profit, bad nasty cheap cakes give us all a bad name!!
