New Nappy Cake

I am looking to wrap my second ever nappy cake. With the first one I went to a local shop that do gifts and asked them to wrap and bow it for me. THey charged one pound fifty which 'I thought was fine. I've now made my first 3 tier cake and want to wrap it the same way but the shop used a cellophane bag last time and the cake I've now made is too big. THe problem is that I have some things that are sort of balanced on one of the tiers and therefore they need to be held in place by the cellophane. I've looked online to order some celloophane basket bags which are what the shop said theirs are called but they are quite expensive cos they come in multiples of ten. Any ideas would be really appreciated. Thanks,
Nuninge
I've always used cellophane roll. I bought a roll of 100m for £15 off eBay. It is rather fiddly at times and you don't seem to be able to get it wider than 80cm. You can get smaller quantities tooOverdraft: [STRIKE]£529[/STRIKE] £199 BC: [STRIKE]£697.82[/STRIKE] £1974.02 MBNA: [STRIKE]£1874[/STRIKE] £517.00 -

Hi Nuninge
Most of us use the "tube" method to wrap. You need 80cm wide cello and for a cake on a 10- 11 inch board, I use 1mt length. (the 80cm will be the height)
Overlap it slightly on a flat surface and put a bit of cellotape on bottom and top to hold.
Pop this over the cake with the join at the back. At this stage, I find it easier just to (temp) loosly put elastic band round the top to hold whilst you work on the bottom.
I tip my cake over on to its side to fix bottom but if not comfortable doing this then you have to pull it over the edge of table and tape it from underneath -making sure it doesn't fall off:rotfl:I use those rolls of sticky back book covers from Wilcos once I have taped bottom down. Cut a circle bit smaller than board and stick to bottom. Using this, there is no fear of cake falling through bottom when picked up.
Now go back to top and straighten cello and tie properly. I always have to cut some off the top to neaten up.
Even when finished, you can gently put your hand through the back opening if you need to straighten anything up.
I never have anything loose on the cake. I use small safety pins or tie things on with curling ribbon.
Hope this has helped!0 -
Hi everyone
Have been on here in ages. Hope you are all busy baking. I have been baking for just over a year now and with a lots of hard work am getting repeat orders and people are starting to know about me. I am making about 6 - 10 nappy cakes a week, I'm hoping the business keeps growing so with DS2 starts school next year it will keep me busy from 9-3pm weekdays! Keep up the good work peeps Nat xxxMum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.

WOW! That's fab - I wish I could get a bit busier although things have really picked up over the last couple of weeks and I had 4 boxes of baby cupcakes to do today and finally someone who has seen me at a fair has gotten back to me so hopefully they will pay off after all. How have you managed to get so busy? I'm dying to get busier as I finish work in 3 months and once my new baby is here and settled I'd really like to put my everything into it. I would have been going a year in June.Overdraft: [STRIKE]£529[/STRIKE] £199 BC: [STRIKE]£697.82[/STRIKE] £1974.02 MBNA: [STRIKE]£1874[/STRIKE] £517.00 -
'Baked' my first nappy cake recently for my best friend's new baby. So pleased with the result and she was stunned.
I couldn't believe how easy it was to actually do in the end, once I got all the materials together. Found the posts on here really helpful, so thanks to those who've posted.
Unfortunately can't post a pic as classed as a new user on here. I just need some more of my friends to have babies now so that I can bake some more!!0 -
I have been working 24/7 for a year, doing fairs, leafelts drops, advertising, facebook, twitter, dropping samples at nurseries and more! I am exhausted in some ways but love it in others! I will carry on doing the same through this year and I hope it continues to grow and grow, fingers crossed!
Qucik question on a slightly different subject, has anyone investigated whether you need a license to sell a bottle of bubbly inside a nappy / towel cake? As in champagne not bubble bath!Mum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.

I don't think they have any intention of actually sending out anything...0
