I've just completed my first ever nappy cake, i'm no where near as good as you guys but i'm happy with it.
The only problem I have had is wrapping it in the towel. I'm not sure of the best way to do it, so any pointers would be appreciated.0 -
Hi fyxe
If it's a square towel it's pretty easy. (Oblong ones are a touch harder)
Lay it on bed in a diamond shape with right side underneath. If it has a hood then that "point" is nearest you.
Start folding from far point (nappy heights about 4 inch) down towards the hood and then fold this up on final one for the front.
It helps to have a rolled nappy when you start so you can gage you have got the "rolls" the right size.
You might have to unroll it several times and alter the size of the rolls if it doesn't work out on the finished one, but you will soon get the hang of it.
I then put a few pins in it to hold the shape untill I get it on the CAKE. Make sure you COUNT THE PINS and REMOVE THE SAME AMOUNT. It's so easy to leave one in.
Wrap towel around cake and pin to hold at back untill you have your ribbon on and then remove the last pins.
Hope this has helped!0 -
Had my second fair of the year last night - was promised to be a good one but was terrible, not one single sale. Think I may ditch the Spring/Summer ones as the one on Saturday was bad as well with only one sale and that was from the organisers of the event. Plenty of flyers and business cards went out - fingers crossed that some might come back to me and my facebook likes have taken a fairly good rise over the last week.
On the plus side a lady approached me who runs a shop and is interested in stocking my sock cupcakes YAY! She thinks her shop is in the perfect location to sell and described it as a 'yummy mummy area' so going to meet with hopefully next week. She wants them displayed on a wire cake stand like I had used so will need to get another and that holds 23 so that's a lot to supply especially as my supply of cases will start running out soon as Pound Land have stopped selling them. If anyone knows anywhere to get them for a good price - most places sell them for over £3 for 6 which is far too much - it would really be appreciatedOverdraft: [STRIKE]£529[/STRIKE] £199 BC: [STRIKE]£697.82[/STRIKE] £1974.02 MBNA: [STRIKE]£1874[/STRIKE] £517.00 -
Wilkinsons have them on offer 3 for 2. Their normal price was about £2.47 for 12 (pastel colours).

It's free to collect at store, and the four days delivery was misleading in my case as I ordered one evening and had a phone call to collect my order the next day!0 -
I have been reading through this thread for inspiration. A couple of years ago I made a nappy cake for a friend who was finishing work to have a baby, she has asked me to make one for a friend of hers. Last time I used a you tube video to help me !!
What is the best way to stop the cake from collapsing, if you know what I mean, I seem to recall that by the time my friend was ready to go home from work the cake was looking the worse for wear!!
Any more hints, tips, pointers and cheap options will be gratefully received. Many Thanks0 -
Just redone a 3 Tier cake I had wrapped (changed toy!) and I got a strange smell when I undid it - not unpleasant but sort of peppery!
Made me wonder if some sort of chemical reaction was taking place with the nappies.
I wondered if anyone else had come across this especially as some mums keep them for ages before unwrapping?
They are all kept in a normal centrally heated room.0 -

I am looking to wrap my second ever nappy cake. With the first one I went to a local shop that do gifts and asked them to wrap and bow it for me. THey charged one pound fifty which 'I thought was fine. I've now made my first 3 tier cake and want to wrap it the same way but the shop used a cellophane bag last time and the cake I've now made is too big. THe problem is that I have some things that are sort of balanced on one of the tiers and therefore they need to be held in place by the cellophane. I've looked online to order some celloophane basket bags which are what the shop said theirs are called but they are quite expensive cos they come in multiples of ten. Any ideas would be really appreciated. Thanks,
