Hi Mim, just make sure the cello is fairly tight and I'm sure it will be fine.

Thanks Nat. I've just done that on a smaller two tier cake where I couldn't easily secure the teddy on the top and it seems pretty secure... will try to post a photo of that one as it's finished!

In the past I've used a wooden spoon to secure them all but wondered how others keep their cakes together? Although I don't think the cake will need to be sent by courier, I want to make sure it doesn't come apart in transit!! I guess once it's been cellophaned that should help.
I will try to post a photo when it's finished.
    Any help much appreciated!

I use a piece of dowel cut to length. I cover one end of the dowel with a piece of matching ribbon for if it shows. I leave it stuck up above the cake as then I can attach the topper to it so it stays put.

Thank you for your suggestion. Just realised my previous post didn't make sense! - I meant that when I had cellophaned the cake the teddy seemed secure. I'm hoping the cellophaning works as well on the larger one.

Thanks again to everyone who replied.

    Hi All :hello:

I am a bit of a lurker on this thread, have just recently started crafting lots of things and totally loving it, my cousin had a baby girl on Saturday, I had gathered bits and pieces for a nappy cake but was dreading doing it. probably cost me £35 in total to make, there was loads of stuff in it, next time, I would make middle and top tiers a bit smaller but overall, I was pleased with the 1st result and it took me around 2 hours to make, I pegged the nappies rather than putting a band round them, then removed the pegs when ribbon was on :D constructive critiscism (sp) welcome, sorry I have no idea how to resize the picture :o07112010518.jpg

macpep1, Well Done! Your cake is lovely! especially for a first go!

I agree with the middle and top tiers being slightly too big but I prefer that to some where they look really too small. I think that is one of the hardest things trying to get the proportions right.

    Hello Ladies

How are you all? It's been a while since I posted, but all your makes are looking great!

I don't suppose anyone has came across any step by step video tutorials for making a pram cake yet??

I just can't understand written instructions! lol

Thanks for that, was nervvous putting the picture up!! Yes the layers are too big, and hard to judge the proportions, but I wanted to use up all 70 nappies :rotfl: Personally, I prefer all the things hidden inside so the outside is tidy looking, just my preference though, everyone to their own and all that :rotfl:

Nappy Cake Ingredients:- 70 x size 3 Pampers, 3 x Winding Cloths, 3 x Tommy Tippee Bottles (3m+), 3 x Pairs newborn socks (rosebuds), 5 x bibs, 2 x baby blankets, Sudocrem, Cotton Buds, Infacare Baby Bath, Johnson & Johnson Baby Lotion, Johnson & Johnson Shampoo, Johnson & Johnson Baby Wipes, 3 x Pairs Scratch Mittens, 1 x Winnie The Pooh Rattle, 1 x Digital Thermometer, 2 x Teething Rings (4m+), Toothbrush (0-2 yrs), Baby Slippers (0-3m), My First Shoes, Baby Picture Frame

Wow! You certainly filled your cake to bursting. Must have cost a fortune! You did really well to get everything in.

Like you, I like to keep my cakes plain. I put some clothes on the outside but other than the blanket, they are quite plain.

Thought this may be of help to some, either as a 'teddy' replacement on your nappy cakes, or for an additional gift
