moonpenney I roll from the folded end to the open end...

for those of you who open the nappy first a tip... if the receiver doesn't open the cake for a while the nappies are not very good as they lose their shape after being rolled this way..

Thanks everyone! for your input on nappies.

Chatty123, that was exactly my worry as I open nappies before I roll them. I thought it might make them a bit loose in the middle.
Think I will still roll as I think it makes a sturdier cake but will have to experiment first.

Irlrip, did you manage to find a basket with right colour lining?

snookles - just remembered BHS have some blueand brown monkeys but quite dear at £6

If you roll the folded nappy tight they make a very sturdy tier.. you may use more than the swirl but still think its worth it for the end result

Hi everyone, just back from hols. I roll the nappy without opening it first and just wondering as I have a blue and a pink nappy cake which I made approx 3 - 4 months ago and my sister in law is wanting one for a friend when the baby arrives next month. I don't really want to start dismantling them as I put so much time in making them and getting the cellophane just right....but I also don't want to sell her one if the nappies are not going to be of any use with being rolled up for so long. Just wondering what your view is on this.

    Hi cherydee
I think your cakes will be fine.
The problem was really to do with opening nappies out before rolling and slightly stretching the middle bit.
I am going to start rolling as they come out of pack (same as you!)

cherydee as moonpenney says as long as you haven't unfolded before rolling your cake should be ok. the nappies only become out of shape if opened

I had a order on Thursday night for Friday collection a fifty pound cake. I had a lovely peachy coloured blanket from John Lewis and a lovely little doll that I bought in Florida.

Thanks all for your replies, that's a relief I think I will just leave them as they are. My daughter is having her third son Christmas week, so I want to make her a nice three tier one.
