Just had a call to say I'm not allowed to attend the ONLY craft fayre in the area as my gifts arn't classed as home made!! She said 'we only sell complete home made local crafts, you should try a baby fayre!'
Im heartbrokenNo thats not fair how can any craft be all home made i make cards as well but i dont make the card that i use and how can any one that knits make all there own wool same goes with everything really
The problem is making nappy cakes is not seen as a craft therfore alot of craft fairs don't like you selling at them. I have had this debate before else where other stall holders are fed up of anyone (non crafters) turning up at the event with any old thing they have bought to sell on to make a quick buck i can see their point but to us it is a craft. There is a big craft fair near me in the summer and it said strictly handmade/homemade only i contacted the lady with photos like you said you have now done K and she acepted me so fingers crossed you will too.
I did a 3 day one last year and made a boo boo and didn't get a contact i wanted as a big events organiser came around to promote their craft fair and to invite poeple to have a stall but i put something in as part of a gift set. The woman loved the gift but turned it over and it said made in china. She read it out allowed for everyone to hear huff and puffed and walked off i was gutted not to secure them for my next fair but she wasn't intrested.
I am in the middle of doing a 3 tier at the moment.:)Mummy to 2 wonderful boysWant to be fit for 30 not fat at 30but i want never gets!!!0 -
Hi again would anyone be so kind as to tell me what pins they use to secure the blankets round the tiers, is it a nappy pin if so where do I find them ?
And I can not believe some of the comments about nappy cakes are not homemade gifts !!! craft fairs should be about all different crafts not the same stuff you get everywhere !
Thank you so much0 -

Babycakes123,
I only use pins to hold blanket when I first wrap it round (dressmaking or safety pins) but then I remove them when I put the florist ribbon around as that holds it.
If you use dressmaking pins - don't forget to count them to make sure they have all been removed.0 -
I've been inspired by this tread and am just in the process of making my first nappy cake.
It consists of 56 nappies across 3 tiers.
The bottom tier has a cellular blanket, 3 pairs socks and a teether.
The middle tier has a fleecy pram blanket, 2 bibs, brush and comb set, dummy and 2 feeding spoons
The top tier has 2 face cloths and a pair of booties on the top.
It is still work in progressAny advice / observations welcome together with any suggestions on how to secure the booties to the top?
Thank youIt's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission0 -
Hi I have been reading this thread for weeks (on and off!) getting lots of ideas from all the talented people on here. I have made three cakes so far plus a mothers day towel cake and got a really good response and lots of people saying they will order when their friend / relative is due.... I am hoping I can turn this into a real business and thank you for this great thread.
I can sypathise with the lady who's cake got insulted, I posted some pics on facebook and all my friends were lovely except one who said she hated it, I know it's not everyone's thing but it did upset me, never mind everyone else has been very positive including my lovely friend who has just opened a habadashery shop and ordered me loads of ribbon at cost :T Here's to a all our successful businesses:beer:Mum to 2 DSs, dog mum, wife full-time worker.
