Hi
Thanks for the advice Popkins. I can see that the one I made for my dfaughte would have been classed as a luxery cake. Think I will give her prices for both and see what she wants.0 -

I make the mini cake for approx £3 so not a bad mark up for me and also for the shop owner, especially as they don't have to do anything other than display it in the shop!
can i ask how make it that cheap?

Hiya Guys,
Been lurking here for a while and thought it was about time I shared a few of my creations!
I wasn't sure how to put it directly in the board so here is the link to Photobucket.
Hopefully it works!!!
Please be gentle with me!!
I have just made these at cost or as gifts for some friends. Would love to do it for some extra cash but that may come yet!:jMini Coops arrived 2011:j0 -

I brought some muslins in bulk which took the price down but the pink and blues are a bit strong for my liking and i wasnt happy with the cream. Ive got some of those star fish ones but I prefer to use more expensive thicker ones so they are just sitting there, i keep meaning to put them on ebay.
I have no idea how anyone can do them for £3, I guess it depends on what your doing, if its a small one with a blanket from poundland (or asda pram fleeses (Ive not seen them so dont know what they are like), a small amount of nappies and some socks or something.
Are you wanting to sell them? I decided to go a bit more expensive and have things that feel nice (i think that if i had a child what would i like to use) and my prices reflect that but i prefer that to using cheeper stuff (by this i dont mean to insult anyone who is doing cheeper ones, I know some people get some fantastic bargains from home bargains and B&M which we dont have around here)Best wins in 2013 £200 and Mini iPad. 2014 no wins. 2015 2 nights 5* hotel with £300 vouchers plus £1150 Harrods gift card

Yes, it is cotton wool. I must have around 40 rolls in the attic from a glitch in boots around 2 years ago lol.
Couldnt find any blankets cheaper than a fiver so thought i would give it a go. Thankfully i did, as i could only get ribbon at john lewis. Very nice though.
I just cant figure out how people can do them so cheaply. I mean, i am a big bargain hunter anddo buy in bulk, but even then they still come out quite pricey. Maybe its just me. I do only really have a tesco near me and if i want a poundland its a fair trek. Hmmmmm.....
Any good tips? Especially where to find decent price hooded towels and blankets. It would be very much appreciated!0 -
Hiya,
My mini cakes cost approx 4 inc wrapping. Using a muslin or feeding cloth 7 nappies a bib & a £1 asda teddy.
I buy most of my blankets & twels from asda £3 each. Ethel Austin sell pink & blue blankets with pics in the middle but i find these harder to fold than the corner or hooded ones.
I like to use good quality stock but need to keep costs low as £40-50 is a lot to spend on a new baby gift IMO. My 3 tier start at £25 i adjust the contents according to the budget. The ASDA pram fleece are good quality, they are as thick as the normal blankets just a bit smaller and plain.
HTH
