  • Irishgirl - perhaps you could replace the ribbon with florists ribbon? It may help keep the cost down.

whats the minimum you need for a cake and roughly how much does it cost to make one?

    Hi,

Didn't want your post to go unnoticed. How many tiers are you thinking?

The absolute minimum of course is nappies! How many would depend on the tier size. A 1 tier would take approx 15-20 nappies for eg and a 3 Tier would take approx 30+. But these figures vary widely, its all about what works for you. Some ppl might use more, some less.
You might also want to put things like a baby's bottle, toiletries, etc inside to hold the tiers together although I personally don't think its vital as when it's wrapped it tends to stay together anyway.
You will also need elastic bands (big and small) (to hold the rolled nappies and the tiers), few metres of florist ribbon, some glue or dbl sided sticky pads. To wrap it you will need a couple of metres of cellophane, a pull bow and maybe some curling ribbon.

Most cake makers like to add other baby goodies like blankets, muslin, soft toy, the list is limitless really! If you look on the thread at other people's cakes, you get a general idea for the look you're aiming for and how much you want to spend. The cost also dpends on where you shop.

HTH, have a look on google/youtube for tutorials search for diaper cakes as well as nappy cakes.
