    Hi Stardrops

The teddies that I use are never suitable from birth. They have tags on though stating what the age is from and on the gift tag on the cake I always put on that the age the teddy is suitable from. That way they see it on the gift tag and the tag on the teddy. The tesco teddies which are very nice are from 12 months. They are £2.47. Hope that helps. xx

Thanks chopster, yes I've seen the ones in tesco and thought they were ideal but then I saw the age on the tag I was unsure:confused: I've also seen one in home bargains which is the cutest thing but again from 12 months but I'm going to get it and just leave the tag on ;)

Just wanted to say hi! Have just started out making and selling nappy cakes (just thinking of a name for my website!) and stumbled upon this thread - everyones cakes are absolutely fab!! I must admit I have only joined MSE to post on here! although I have lurked on the site for several years.

Re the teddies - Morrisons have some lovely ones starting at 87p - for cow (this is gorgeous!) and rabbits and then a variety or different animals up to about £3
  • Hi, Im looking for some advice. I made a baby basket, its got a baby comforter, a bib and 2 nappies in. It cost about £5 (excluding the basket and ribbon which i already had). Im thiinking of asking my local post office to display it, they take 20% of the final sale price. My mum doesnt like it thinks im over pricing (I was thinking of £12). Do these kind of things sell, and is it worth putting in, or shall i just take it apart? Most of the customers are old ladies.

    thanks

Regarding toy "ages" - I try and use "from birth" but I sometimes use "12 mths plus"

The "from birth" ones do tend to be expensive. I used to cut the label off and put it inside the cake but now I leave the labels on. I also put a disclaimer inside the cake stating the age the toy is suitable from along with how the cake is put togetheer etc.

    Hi everyone,
Some great cakes out there. I've not posted in ages but thought I'd post one of my "new" cakes. I've found a supplier for the blankets so have gone really upmarket with them so just have to hope they do well! I'm looking to sell them for £50.

Vikki_Louise I tend to agree with your mum, I think £12 is alot for what you are offering, it also doesn't look like there's much in the basket because it's all covered. You can try though and see what happens. Worst case scenario they don'gt sell it and you haven't lost anything by trying.
  • I was just wondering how you all secure your toys to the top of your cakes? I have just been wedging mine in or using a couple of small loose stitches to stitch to the outside or something but am looking for alternatives!

Ah thanks Brudie, I am still nervous about asking that but I have to. The blanket alone retails at £20. If anyone were to but the contents of the cake to do themselves it would cost just under £40 so it looks like I'm adding £10 on for my profit on making it up.
Regards to securing toys I just use sticky pads on mine. The best ones I've found have been from our local pound shop suprisingly. They stick anything so I use them to secure my fabric ribbons as well. Once the cakes are wrapped the toys can't really move about anyhow. I used to use sticks and all sorts but now have become more relaxed and just use the sticky pads.
