Emma, your cake is absolutely beautiful ...... I can't believe her harsh words.
Almond, well done you on your sales.
As for my show ........... I sold 1 toolbelt !!!!!
But not disheartened, there were only 6 of us doing stalls, and only a couple of baby clothes sales for the one, and book sales for another, so at least I got 1 more sale than the other 3 :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I sold 1 'daddy' toolbelt.
Had some great comments on my cakes, lots of leaflets taken, and a few people enquiring about future orders once the babies have been born.
Also another lady doing the stall is passing on my leaflet to her friend who has a shop (about 12 miles away), she thought that her friend might possibly stock them for me, as she only sells unusual handcrafted items, so fingers crossed. She is also going to email me some of her contacts etc.
It was a nice relaxing day, and the restaurant food etc, was fantastic
Think my next plan is to work on some smaller/cheaper baby gifts.A creative mess is better than tidy idleness0 -

Hope everyones fairs went well!
Almond, Congrats on your news of a grandson. I know how you feel, as I had a little grandson last January and was secretly hoping for a girl. I do tend to prefer boys but with having an only son - anyway, it didn't take any time at all to get over my dissapointment (in secret!) He is just so lovely and I wouldn't swap him for the world.
I have to ask - what are the "cubes" you are making?
Emma, Your cake is absolutely gorgeous - no way could it be called "tacky" It sounds to me like the person who said it could be suffering from "the green eyed monster"
hi
thanks for congrats, still getting used to it, think i wanted a girl since i will be looking after him a lot and wanted a dolls house.
cubes here is link http://www.make-your-own-baby-stuff.com/baby-quilt.html
I was wanting to have ago at making a patchwork quilt and came across this site, dd says they will sell, very quick to make up took about 10 mins to cut out and sew. I have some bells (wish i knew were) I got for 50p at xmas, since i said to dd they will come in for something and yes when i need them i can't find them. Our local shop does squeakers but are out of stock. You can get them for internet but the delivery is high. I made a couple and are going to cut out a lot more today, think you can put ribbon
on and jazz up as you like. Its just something else to pay for the cost of a stall. Only word of warning what i am doing is, printing contents of stuffing and making a sign saying complying with kite mark, best safe then sorry.
Emma regarding your cake its lovely - i am one that does'nt really like them, but make them for the stall, I have made a few that i think omg tacky but people love those and some that i think wow that have'nt sold.
best comment i over heard was for a man last sunday (he must have been 70-80yrs old) what a good idea better than that crap you get for our grandkids, at least she could use them, rather than all that rubbish people buy. Ok he never got one but still if men think they are good thats saying something.0 -
hi me again
candy - good news about shop let use know how you get on
was wondering since we are doing fairs would it be worth us putting together a list of what we are selling
to give others an idea? We decided because of the cost of the stalls we do £40 you need something to pay for the table, if you sold 3 cakes you won't break even.
this is what we put on ours
nappy cakes
socks don't sell (well sold 10 to one women for her kitchen)
bandana bibs
father day glasses
new father kits
cubes (new sunday)
we started putting candles on
swiss rolls (fly out but can't get anymore)
small little cakes ones 50p each (profit 40p each)
set them up on a three tier cake stand.
mugs with socks (don't really sell)
dogs bandanas (new sunday)
dog treats (always go well)
best teacher little rabbits (new sunday)
i know its a bit of a mix but if you just have baby things
we found that not everybody comes looking.
not sure how we are going to get everything on a 6x2 table but we build up with boxes
anybody got any other ideas of good sellers
if anybody wants to have ago at bandana bibs very easy. First lot i made overlocked them and then turned hem cos i had used toweling, next batch used jersey for backing and just overlocked them, velco and people say
what a good idea profit is £1.20 per bib, not much but
it helps.0 -
I also would of loved to of been given a Nappy Cake when I had my daughter. If the contents are of good quality, I think most ladies would be happy to receive one. But of course there's always folk who put their noses up, as I said.
Emma your cake doesn't look tacky at all. I have seen some nappycakes that do look tacky as they are so messy, but your is streamlined and neat. Seriously, don't let it get to you x
Julie, sorry to hear you have had bad news. Hope you are ok.
Also, I think the 1/3 off nappies in Sainsbury's must of finished as I also can't find anything on the website x"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0 -
Giggle - hope you're ok (((((((HUGS)))))) Thanks to everybody in the crafting threads who inspired me to start my own business!!0

Hello Everyone. I am totally new to this site and forum stuff, but I have read all sorts of messages encouraging and discouraging as some might be, but after alot of goading by friends and relatives over the years, I too set up my own nappy cakes business called Nappy Cakes Cornwall and it does seem a bit of a slow process especially via the computer. Is anyone else finding that. I mean I have quite a few hits to my site, and then unfortunately I find people trying to copy them and put them for sale on E-bay. I find this quite annoying and wondered what other people think.
Regards
Kerry0
