I have some freinds coming over tomorrow night and they are on slimming world and therefore are on a fat free (well low fat) diet.

For mains I am doing lamb joint in the SC with LOADS of veg mmmmmmm

For desert I am going to do stewed apple and with low fat icecream sundae style

I am really struggling for a nice starter. Any ideas? Was thinking of a soup but not really made many nice soups before that didn't have cream in. I really like fish but OH is not so keen so that is a no no. I want to enjoy it just as much as them.

Hiya, i take it they are on red days? Just trying to think what meaty based soup you could make with no carbs......

What about brocolli soup/carrot and coriander/ watercress? You can always put a drib of milk in instead of cream

The apples in your crumble are quite high in syns from memory - cookd/pureed fruit becomes syns/calories on slimming world (well that was the case when i did it). Have you thought about serving Eton mess? Overloaded with fresh fruit (free)? some muller light - free (or flavoured natural yoghurt but i cant rem if it has syns) and one crumbled meringue shell - then as far as I know the only syns would be the meringue shell which they should be able to calculate easily. 3 syns or so? Im not sure how much a serving of crumble would be - prob about 12 syns or something? Only guessing though! Ill see if i remember where my books are

Sorry - just my input from when I did SW.

Mmmm I don't know the slimming world regime but a few things spring to mind...

melon sprinkled with ginger, maybe with a sliver of thin proscuittio (or however you spell it)
something with a touch of salad (I was thinking prawn cocktail or melon but those would be out)
for soup - a clear veg broth ie finely chopped carrots, onions, swede, parsnip (anything really, you can also put in a couple of potatoes) simmered in water with a veg stock cube. Then blitz it (or part of it) in a food processor to thicken it.
Clear tomato soup is supposed to be fantastic, with vodka in it (Jamie Oliver recipe)
Veg sticks etc with salsa dip
    Stuffed mushrooms or stuffed peppers

And for dessert, my favourite is thinly sliced satsumas with a slosh of cointeau over it - could serve with sorbet...

If they're on slimming world, maybe they don't need a starter? :D

    (sorry)

Something salady, you can make a warm chicken breast salad. Just coat chicken breast with some herbs and then pan fry it and then some herb salad.

Or something like ham and soft cheese whirls. Just slap some soft cheese in a slice of ham, roll it up and slice prettily.

Or avocado and prawn without any sauce?
  • I'd just second the advice given above. If they are on SW and you are serving a meat joint, they will be limited on potatoes and other starchy veg (along with pasta, rice etc.)

You could make any veggie soup (no potatoes though), they would have the stock as syns (not many).

We used to make a SW starter of diced chicken pieces, small pieces of bacon (fat removed, both fried with spray oil or dry fried) mixed with a few dairylea light triangles let down with a little milk to make a cheese sauce.

Serve with salad. We loved it as it tastes quite naughty but contains no syns (dairylea and milk = healthy extra A)
  • Sorry just noticed it's tonight. Apologies if suggestions are a little late.
