I'm 27 earning £18500 per annum as an accounts assistant for a private medical company. It's flexi time and I get 27 days holiday + 10 bank holidays (I'm in NI), I can work from home if my son is sick, we have healthcare cover for all sorts (I claim for my optical and dental appointments/treatments in this).

I travel approximately 35 miles (round trip). We get an annual payrise in january of about 3% and a Christmas bonus of £250. I am due my first annual appraisal next month and we have been told of a bonus then too.

I have taken a salary reduction from £18500 to £15584 as I am making the most of childcare vouchers.

I wish I was paid more for my actual salary, but then I don't suppose I'd get the benefits.

Trainee Accountant working for the local council. 23.3k at the moment but once I pass my exams my wage goes upto 33k. Work 37 hours a week.

Benefits include 26 days holiday, flexi time with upto 24 days a year flexi leave on op of that, paid sick leave, pension scheme.
  • 30, Concession Manager for company based in Debenhams. Pay level is about 3p above minimum wage and my assistant is pretty much on the same pay level as me. Commission is earnt, but typically doesn't exceed £60 in a month. Work every Saturday and Sunday unless on holiday.

Everyone questions why I do this job for such a low wage, but at the end of the day it's money in the bank. Feel sometimes like I will never be able to get another job anyway. Starting an accounting and book-keeping course in November with the Open University. If all goes well I might try and setup a part-time business with the hope that I might be able to boost my yearly income. However this would not begin to happen until spring/summer next year. God help me!

I am 34 in the Royal Navy and work as a Submariner earn between £40 & £50k a year depending on the amount of tima underwater i do. Have great benefits

Free & priority health and dental care
A good percentage of my travel costs paid
    38 days plus annual leave
Decent pension paid out after 22 years service(5 to go)
Have been to many great places and met many wonderful people
I work with some cracking people and the banter is 2nd to none.

In short i love my job i would do it for free if i could afford to.

Still no matter how much i earn it doesn t seem to take away the fact that i am totally skint and struggling from month to month :-(

What about SFA (if you're married) or your board & lodge if you are on block or does this not apply in the Navy?

My hubby is a Lance Corporal with the Royal Engineers in the British Army. He is on about £28000 per annum.

    Benefits:
Cheap Service Families Accomodation (he pays about £300 a month for a 3 bed semi, water and council tax)
All the education and adventure courses he could dream of - he's just put in for his 2nd parachute course
    Gets to see the world
We can claim our travel costs to go back 'home' (limited to a certain number of times a year depending on where you are)
    Full medical cover
    Great mates and banter

    Downsides:
Family always comes second - he is married to the army first and we have to remember that lol
Last minute notice for most things
Having to leave decent jobs for the dependents
    Children changing schools etc
Sometimes the housing can be of a very poor quality and repairs take forever!!!

Wow, I feel a little jealous of everyone here. And this is the best wage I've ever had :rotfl:

I work for a property auction company on £13,500 a year before tax. I get 5 weeks holidays and if I put 3% into my pension then my employer does the same (although I don't at the moment).

    Oh and I'm 22.
Just because you made a mistake doesn't mean you are a mistake.

    Aged 28, working in Dorset.

Was a Conveyancer (with no qualifications, worked my way up from a secretary) on 25K. Credit crunch hit just as I was due a 5K payrise. Took voluntary redundancy as it was very stressful.

Worked as a a medical negligence paralegal on 20K. Made redundant which I was grateful for as I wasn't really interested in that area of law.

Now working as a letting agent in an office of 5 people which I love. Have been there 3 months, am earning 16K plus bonus. It was the firms best ever month in August and I received £200 bonus. Am hoping my basic will increase over time as I will be senior neg and then manager eventually.

Though over 3k of that is due to London Weighting.

Perks are Pension scheme and apparently we get discounts on certain things as we are classed as NHS employees but ive yet to discover what they are!
