    Hi Annie021063 :)
Wow you have given me a boost!
I have wanted to teach since I was 4!! In particular I would love to be Special Needs Primary school teacher :) I just don't know how to go about it? Was going to do access course a couple of years ago but didn't have the money unless I did it full time whereby it's free - now the access course has been stopped in our local college,(where I work coincidently, lol)!
I really can't afford to quit work - will be starting sign language in September thanx to staff development :) And I have a job there til the end of next June so really wouldn't want to leave them in the lurch - if you have any advice or suggestions I would be truly grateful :)
I have my English and Maths gcse's but would need to get science,(I was born 1974 so technically don't need it but I know it would be favoured).
I also don't drive so may be those are 2 things I could and should look at in the next year but I would be really grateful if you have any more ideas please :)
    Thank you so kindly :)
    Jenny :)
Everything happens for a reason :)

Well Im 26 and currently not working (not out of choice) so at the moment my income is £0 but waiting to start my new job as an assistant (basically admin work but its a whole new role so Ive got a lot of work to do sorting out the systems etc) where i'll be on £14k. Its a pay cut from my old job but right now I just need to be working and it will JUST cover all my bills (there'll be no going out for me for a while)
I do have a HND in computers and good GCSEs etc plus the first yr of a degree but it seems theres just nothing out there at the moment which pays a good wage.
I would love to finish my degree but at the moment I just cant afford to so that will have to wait unfortunately!
Time to get things sorted once and for all......
  • Although the contributions are comparatively small, the civil service pension scheme is contributory

I take your point although strictly speaking the contriburtions are for widows' and dependants' benefits, not retirement, but yes there is no way of avoiding them:o

If I remember correctly it depends which scheme you're in. If you're paying 1.5% then yes, and you get the basic retirement pension (based on 80ths). If you pay 3.5% you get an enhanced pension too (based on 60ths). ;)

Have been to many great places and met many wonderful people
I work with some cracking people and the banter is 2nd to none.

I'm 28 and earn circa £32k as an IT Desktop Support Engineer (contractor, not permanent) in Glasgow.

Perks... not a lot but well paid for the position im doing which in itself is a problem as they are looking to downsize our team and out of 4 im the only contractor. Similar positions at the moment locally i'd be lucky to see £23k :(

I don't think i've even seen jobs with those kind of wages advertised on the job centre website or anything, is there some secret site I don't know of?!

    :|
I went to the Job Centre once and they only had really crappily paid jobs, mostly minimum wage. I never went back.

I look on https://www.totaljobs.com and https://www.fish4jobs.com and the NHS jobs website. The local paper on jobs day is also good.

Pay usually reflects qualifications and experience.
