Age 24, I'm a qualified electrician currently working in Afghanistan for an American company. I get paid in dollars so can vary a little due to the exchange rate. Last year I earnt $126,000 Bonus is I pay 0% tax.
I will be returning back to the UK soon and probably be lucky to get 12.50 an hour. All good things must come to an end lol

25 year old city centre Police Officer with 4 years service.
Salary is 29k + overtime readily available.
we get paid shift allowance which in normal month equates to £80-£100 extra...
We have a decent pension - mine should pay out after 35 years service - as long as the Govt. don't mess with it any further!!
Good opportunities for lateral movement and promotion if desired. Relative job security in the current climate.
Decent gym facilities in most stations.
Expenses paid for anything beyond normal course of duty.
Life experience!! You certainly see people at their best and worst!
Real opportunity to change the lives of people you meet.
Also proud to serve alongside some cracking people - a second family - and the banter is fantastic!
I love my job and feel priveledged to pull on the uniform - if I won the lottery tomorrow, I would do it for nothing!! It's not all a bed of roses, but ultimately, would recommend it to anyone with a sense of humour and drive for a challenging but rewarding career.:T DEBT FREE AS OF APRIL 2013! :T"I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul"0 -
*shakes fist at rather useless drama degree*
Like you I have a theatre studies degree and after 4 years of being a freelance workshop mediator I have had to finally go into work that actually pays me something regular.
So, I'm currently a HR Administrator on 14K PA at the mo. I'm only temp, getting made perm in about 2 months, then it will rise to 15K plus free dental and eyecare.
I still teach drama on evenings and at weekends which is roughly £15.00 an hour. I also continue to freelance at a local theatre when I have a chance.
Seriously need to pull the finger out and actually go do my teaching at some point ¬ ¬Mortgage - £99,000 (Septmber 2018)Halifax Credit Card - £1500 (Septmber 2018)0 -
I'm an Admin for Carlisle United and I earn £6.50 an hour. I'm going in to my 3rd year of studying Aerospace Engineering at uni so this is just a fill-in job until I get a "proper" jobBroke Student :beer:0

I studied for a maths and physics degree and my husband became a master of chemistry. Both of us qualified in our early fifties but no-one was interested in employing us. It really wasn't worth being mature students.
We ended up in the tax office. It paid over £8 an hour and we only needed to work part time until we retired.Don't mess with pensioners. :cool:0 -

Problem is in a lot of cases companies are demanding degree's for even the most menial jobs nowadays. Unless you have one or a other trade qualification you can look forwards to a life of minimum wage jobs.0 -
Recently took redundancy from my IT job that paid around £45k.
Didn't enjoy the job or the commute, tried to set up my own business but not earning enough from that so I now work P/T in a call centre for around £9 an hour.
I enjoy that more than the IT job but couldn't do it full time, it would send me mad!
I'm still persevering with the business as it should take off given time and the P/T job pays the bills enabling me to keep trying.:A0 -
IT Developer, i.e. computer programmer (nearly 20 years' experience)
£40k salary + occasional o/time
Pension (no longer related to salary)
Flexi-time + work from home couple of days a week
10 min drive to work, free parking lol
Plenty of other jobs where I'd have to work a lot harder for a lot less money so no complaints !Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
