You don't invalidate the warranty by installing an OS. We could have talked you through it quite easily.

Seems a strange question to ask after you have purchased it.

Perhap you can answer the question yourself once you've received it.

Personally, I would have bought one with an 120/160GB HDD, not a measly 8 GB SSD.

Since we don't know the spec of your ACER, it's not easy to answer your question?

Have asda agreed to a full refund? £141 will buy you a decent second hand laptop

Whether it is ok, depends on what you want to use it for, how big your fingers are, and how good your eyesight is. XP uses about 3 of that 8GB up.

I bought the acer aspire one 160gb with linux - the offer that was plastered all over this forum a few months ago.

How does that compare with an 8gb SSD?

To be fair, if it fits your needs, it's good value. I can also understand that installing an OS on a Netbook can be daunting to a novice.

My Aspire One runs sweetly on XP. Got rid of the Linux almost immediately. But I've got a disc and an external drive, so it was easy for me.

Erm...it doesn't compare. My music collection alone is over 32 GB. 8 GB would be useless to me.

Yep. I want to use it mainly for internet browsing but I also want to be able to do my planning on microsoft office, which I couldn't do on the linux/open office - had problems when I wanted to transfer docs from open office to microsoft word/ excel.

Don't need tons of storage as I have desk top too, just wanted something mobile but with XP.

You shouldn't ask 'Techies' 'cos they always look as the possibilities for modification.
