Yes, don't worry, they do pay people. Sometimes your payment will be a little late, but it's always there, at least in my experience anyway!

Yes they do, not always at the same time of the month but it does get there.

Depends on your bank, RBS is always the 2nd working day after remittance (so remittance Mon, paid some point on Weds)

As I recall there's a short pre-selection test which won't take you too long to complete. If you pass that, you get some training materials and a longer exam to take.

I think they give you a maximum of 5 days to read the materials and complete the test. I did it all over the course of a single weekend - it requires a bit of brain power, but anyone who's reasonably smart would probably have a good chance of passing.
