I think the relevant proportions are 70% water to 30% oil, or 80/20 sorry forgot which  - anyway I have done it and it works fine. They are very expensive to buy. I think you can buy the pump action spray from kitchen shops, or just use a spray bottle.

Ah! I've tried this before but didn't think to mix it with water. The oil just clogged up the spray bottle and leaked everywhere! :o Might try it again tomorrow....

The problem is that you need about 50 sprays to get enough oil to cook with. :)

wouldn't it be even more moneysaving to just use the water ;)

  • Or dry fry everything. I never use oil, add a bit of water if things start to stick.

Actually they contain 58% sunflower oil :) I only use it sparingly so maybe 5-10 sprays max... You can also use olive oil but I don't know if it's the same ratio as I only have the sunflower one btu I need to pop to the shop later so I'll have a look and see if I can find the olive one :)

The stuff in the spray oils is different to that in a normal bottle of oil. If you unscrew the top you can take a look.

The spray is sort of thicker and milkier, whereas the cooking oil, looks like, well, um, cooking oil.

It has to be slightly different as the cooking oil would be too thick to spray.
