If you have nothing constructive to say can you please not say anything, thankyou.
The people above are saying something constructive- they're telling you the facts in plain english- good luck with trying to get something back, but IMHO you've got Bob Hope.
It is the customers responsibility to ensure that their balance, wages, ingoings and outgoings etc are correct. If your GF has gone and spent the money then you've not got a leg to stand on as she's not out of pocket.
Just out of curiosity i've never heard of a 'confirmation slip' saying that a transfer will go into a new ISA, as the transfer cannot be processed until the application has been sent off to the ISA centre and it takes a few days for the account to be fully up and running.
Confirmation slips are only printed off for things that have taken place. When you get to the end of your tether, tie a knot and hang on.0 -
I understand about the money but this is going off on a tangent, Im asking about getting compensation. Doing something that is obviously a break from the norm and challenging something that has (or should that be no) happened and make the bank admit some liability on their part.
Simply not following a written instruction surely makes them accountable partly?0 -

Well I thiought that too but I have sen the slip and it does state they would transfer fund from one Acc (Current) to another(ISA).
I would scan it for you but I'm unable to do that till the weekend.0 -

OK, the answer to that is - you won't get it.

Yes, you may get an apology. But they are not accountable for your girlfriend going on a shopping spree.

Where do people get these ideas about compensation from? I blame day-time television. And if some one's to blame, there must be a claim.
Cor, do you think I could patent that phrase?0 -
Its not day time TV its the principle of the matter, especially with banks who charge astronomical amounts because we make a small error occasionally.
Why shouldn't I complain and press for compensation when they have quite clearly not done what they said they would?0 -
Your fighting a losing cause mate, but good luck

dil1976, I do appreciate that your GF asked Natwest to do something, but I think the best you can really hope for is an apology and for them to make up any interest she has lost out on by the transfer not happening. Bearing in mind the amount of money involved, the lost interest is, in reality, non existent. Yes, Natwest need to apologise, but they haven't lost the money, your GF spent it and Natwest didn't force her to do this.0

What have they charged you?
I'm assuming you're comparing the situation to one where you take your account overdrawn, illegally taking the banks money as if it were your own. I don't see any parallels to this case, where your gf spent rather than saved money in her bank account.
Think the best you can hope for is the lost interest on the ISA, which i calculate to be at most 4% x £50 x 1 month = 17p.0 -
Yes, it would be reasonable to expect them to backdate the interest to the date when they should have done the transfer, but this will only make a few pence difference on £50.00. I doubt she will get anything more than this as she isn't out of pocket.
Wanting compensation is not the same as deserving it.0
