Anyone applied to Abbey recently (how long do they take?)

I applied for an Abbey Zero six weeks ago. I phoned three weeks ago and the lady said that they had "asked for the paperwork to be sent out" ten days earlier. YESTERDAY I received: 1) A letter dated 25/5 and 2) a reminder dated 4/6, both asking me to sign the agreement. They were both sent 2nd class, I know, but COME ON -- is Royal Mail really taking 22 days to deliver a letter??!?0

Amongst other issues, it's now 29 days since a customer bounced a £20 chequre on me and in spite of me regularly phoning Abbey, I've yet to receive the cheque back so that I can find out which customer it was. Pathetic bunch of !!!!!! at Abbey. I'm gradually shifting my business elsewhere. I'm happy to pay a bit for a service if it means I actually get a service. Loads of other issues too re business banking but I don't want to take the thread more away from the topic than I already have.
Don't even get me started on ABBEY business banking, it's a really shabby outfit.
I've had problems from the start but as it's free I never did anything about it. You have to do everything online or through the atm which means cheques take forever to clear, they won't even talk to you in branch about the business account.
I too had a cheque bounce on me 9 days ago now and still have not received it back so I can have it out with the customer.
How long could it possibly take to return a
single cheque in the post

8 - 10 working days is what they quote. The first one came back around that time. The other one has taken a LOT longer. This is particularly annoying as I provide a regular and frequent service to customers and I could end up doing more work for someone whio has bouncwed a cheque on me without me knowing it was them.
I'm ready to demand a refund from Abbey unless they come up with the cheque.
On top of that, they have stopped supplying the BACS references completely. So if a customer pays by BACS, you can probably deduce who has paid from the surname and the amount. However, if you have several Jones and Smiths on your books who pay identical amounts, then you really do have to have a guess as to who has paid.

That letter only arrived this morning (17 June) and was dated '16-April-09'!!! Furthermore it said that unless I appealed withing 30 days of the date on the letter the original decision could not be amended.
It's not the rejection, it's the spectacular level of incompetence that leaves an organisation of this size effectively lying (i.e. the letter was probably only printed in the last day or two) to its customers that causes annoyance......under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0 -
Hi,
Reading all this, I'm thinking that my application with balance transfer will never be accepted on time. I assume that the balance transfer part I filled in the online application is just for a quote and not bonding until I sign something? I remember I had to fill the other credit card details... Can I arrange something else and if by any chance my application is successful, just say "sorry I don't need the balance transfer anymore"?
Thanks for advice
