Olive oil every time. The best quality you have to hand.0

i too would use olive oil, lemon juice changes the flavour too much for my tastes, and teh olive oil give it a creaminess0

As the title says really. I have recently started to enjoy humous but my word it can be expensive. I really enjoy the flavoured ones and wondered if anyone has any good recipes i could use?
I have had a look and found some recipes but some say to use tahini and some not....which is best?
Many thanks in advance.xx0 -

I kind of throw it all in and taste and adapt but approx:
tin chickpeas
tablespoon sesame seeds
glug olive oil
salt
lemon juice
about 1/2 clove garlic
if the mix is too dry i add a bit more oil, add salt to taste, add lemon juice to taste. I sometimes add coriander if I have it but I prefer to use sesame seeds to it that tahini as I find it gives a bit more "bite". If you like it more creamy you can add a bit of yoghurt as well.0 -
From 'Cheap Family Recipes' http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/recipe-houmous.html?opt=rlunch
Really cheap- bypasses the tahini/sesame seeds, surprised me by how good it tastes and there are variations on this recipe e.g. lemon pepper/roast onion, red pepper and tomato houmous.
I used to make from scratch with HM tahini, but honestly I think as long as there are enough flavourings aside from the chickpeas you don't miss the tahini at all- which even HM is probably the most expensive bit.
Also it's much less of a faff if you make a big batch and freeze it into portions to defrost when needed.0 -
hmm. i really do miss the tahini. Sometimes I omit the chickpeas and make it with butter beans instead though.0

I just made a kilo of hummus.:)
As the title. Can I freeze some of it?0
