Just got home from 3 hrs at the police station, 2 men interviewed me from hmrc about my false expenses, i admitted that i claimed and recevied this money and explained why i had done what i had done.

Have been bailed to go back in 3 weeks to meet with the man from hmrc regarding the outcome after he has spoke to the legal dept, it comes to about £1200. Had to have fingerprints taken, dna test and photo while i was there.

I hope they are understanding and just give me a caution as i've said i'll pay the money back to them. This has made me realise what a waste i've made of my life and from now on i'm gonna be hardworking and not let anything like this happen again.

Thanks to all the poster's for offering support and advice and not judging because i wanted to just die yesterday but the hardest part is over.

    Heeyyy Well done Jim!! :T:beer:

You got the worst bit over with.. try not to panic.. I know thats easier said than done.. But people HAVE and DO do far worse.

and if it makes you feel any better.. they recorded interviewed my son.. DNA swabbed his mouth.. and fingerprinted him.
For.. making a hole in the skate ramp at the park when he and his buddies chucked a rock on it (according to the council, causing £500 worth of damage)

he was 8 then... (we'd never been to the 'Cop shop' then either It was bloody scary!)

    Well done for going!!! :T:T

Pleased you got through today & have taken the time to come & let us know how you got on.

The worst is over now & it's quite humbling to read your post where you say you realise you've wasted your life & are going to make changes. So, in effect, some good has come from this bad experience.

We all make mistakes in life, but not everybody has the courage to admit to it & to learn from it. You've done this on a public forum, so well done.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

    Oh. My. God.

I can see why they need to go to such lengths to apprehend an eight year old when people like me wait four days for a policeman to turn up after a distressing break-in while I was in the property, only for him to shrug his shoulders and say 'nothin we can do sorry'.

Original poster: well done for today - it must have been frightening but the worse bit is over with now. You were honest and that's the best thing you could have done. You're not the first to make a mistake and I'm so impressed with the way you're determined to draw a line under this and make a fresh start. I wish you the very best of luck.

Hi,yes mate well done, before you go see them again ,go and have a good look at your finances ,so you can work out how much you can afford to repay each week/month.
Dont shortchange yourself, they cant take too much ,you must have plenty for yourself to live on.

Did you have someone with you , might be advisable next time just in case , some one said there should be duty slicitor.
Just to make sure they cant take advantage or try to pressure you into an agreement you cant afford.

Proper crims go to court ,end up with stupitd small fines!! so lets hope they see sense and are helpful.

    :Dhi there
just been reading your posts please dont worry im sure once you get to court things will be sorted out and im sure a payment plan will come into place
The only thing that may go against you in the future if proven guilty is the fraud offence when applying for other jobs etc my friend had a similar offence last year everything went ok it was for a lot more money than your offence it was just the fraud went down on file and when she applied for a new job recently she was turned down because of this
Please just attend court hold your hands up you sound a nice person and hey we all make mistakes ,dont worry and look to the future ,and if you lose your girlfriend maybe it was for the best you need support not condemination good luck and keep us posted ok all the best x:D

    Hi,

If you don't qualify for legal aid ask for advice from the CAB. They often have access to solicitors and barristers who do pro bono work.
