Life Over now, scared and feel sick!

i don't know what to do now, i feel sucidel and scared and it's all my own fault. last year i worked for hmrc and i fiddled my expenses claims because i was in debt and depressed (i know it was theft) but then i left and didn't think about it. now i've had a phonecall today from legal and governance from hmrc saying they want to speak to me about a delicate matter at the police station tomorrow. i dont know what to do because i'm gonna go to jail now and it's my own fault

    Hi

Not going to make any other comment but the most important things are.

    1. You need to get someone to go with you.
    2. If you are honest, they are less likely to prosecute you.
    3. it is in the public interest get the money back, so this is what they really want.

Please speak to the Samaritans if you are struggling and please note they are not allowed to interview you under caution if you are not in a fit state menetally, so you need to speak to a doctor urgently.

You need to seek legal advice. Do not admit to anything without prior consultation.

It seems everyone is fiddling expenses within the public sector at the moment, you are with company.

I aggre with the above posts. also you could always say that it was a mistake and you will pay the money back, seems to be okay for our politicians.
You will get through this , get some legal advice and confide in a family member or good freind that will help loads.

Surely HMRC should have seen you first to ask you for an explanation, before arranging something at the Police Station?

Perhaps it is their policy because of their position.

Did this involve large amounts of money? Would you be able to pay it back immediately?

try to get proof if you were under a doctor for depression, , blame the meds fo impairing judgement , you did nt realise you were breaking the rules. above all have someone with you to act /witness what is being said.

Nothing is worth killing yourself over!!! Please take someone with you, debt can make people do silly things. I can't imagine you going to prison over this, try not to lie as they always catch you out. Good luck
