Internet for 2-3months???

Oh it's a scorcher again!!!! The weather that is.............:p

Ok, ok. Does anyone know if it's possible to get (and from where) internet for about 2-3 months rather than a 12 month contract??? I've heard rumours about "plug in and play' sim card type stuff, but during an initial search it seemed that too would tie me to a 12 month contract. I know back in the good old days of dial-up you could get AOL CD's and get online with no contract, and even be able to blag a month or so for free though obviously i'd prefer broadband (1mb would be fine).

Thanks in advance for any help/advice etc.

Ps - I have a laptop with wifi.

IDNet have one month contracts. They're a little bit on the pricey side compared to some other companies, but they're an excellent ISP with fantastic customer service.

They also don't give you any hassle when you want to cancel.

I used to use my internet pass for pay as you go on dial up ... might be worth checking if they do broadband??

How about buying a Pay as you go Mobile broadband dongle for the period you need?

I know they are slower (and more expensive if you hammer them!) but they are to all intents "no stings attached broadband" and you can use it whilst out and about?

£5 for the dongle. £10 a month pay as you go.

Did you receive the following message on the account creation confirmation page "EMAILER ERROR: The transport failed to connect to the server"?

go thru Quidco.com...look for Vodafone, then select Mobile Broadband, choose the USB Dongle (cost £39) comes loaded with 1Gb of usage....PAYG...BUT ONLY WHEN YOU RUN OUT!...i.e. you can use it for a couple of days...then nothing for a month....its not a minimum top up each month...the credit lasts and carries over from month to month, not like nearly all the other providers...it runs out after 30 days whether you used it or not...

some people say its expensive, or more expensive per GB...yes it is....but the credit lasts and wont expire...ideal for those few sunny days we'll get this summer...

and Quidco...if you're registered you'll get £10 back through them...

to sumarise...good cover, top up doesnt run out...and you're not tied into a contract

alternatively...use a wifi hotspot sniffer and find a neighbour with an unsecured network...you'd be surprised how many there are!!!...and go online through it....hopefully someone will be along and explain the legalities of this...I know when my daughter was at uni...the street she lived in had loads of networks...when she couldnt get online with her own network...she used someone elses.
