Oh dear. I'm stuck where DT was. Not so much with the weight, tho I am over my ideal weight, but with a uniform of jeans and sweatshirt. And I don't think I can justify breaking into my savings unless something actually falls apart.....

    Karmacat,

Can you put a small additional savings pot for some charity shop shopping? When I realised my clothes were the wrong size I haunted charity shops for bargains that would fit me and look better. I did day trips to nearby towns that had good charity shops :D

We all have far too many clothes really - what we need is a small wardrobe that makes us feel fab not a big wardrobe full of carp!

If you could save youself £10 or £20 then go round hunting and not spend it until you try something on and think "wow, that looks lovely", would that work?

I've not got the Gok books, but I do use some of his tips. e.g. High heels are good :) & for larger bra/cup sizes v neck sweaters are flattering. Need to look in the library when I get back and see if his book is there.

I didn't know there were Gok books. I've just popped onto my library website and ordered them - thanks :)

I've got the Trinny & Susannah books - I agree I wouldn't want to be styled by them but I think their piccies do show you how they look bad in certain things, which can help you get your eye in for yourself.

I am thinking of putting by my mse money for something of the sort (well, house maintenance, but clothes are me-maintenance, so it comes to the same thing in the end :rotfl:)

I really do need to declutter - at the moment, I was just putting things into my amazon stock, and I've had 10 minutes decluttering my photos - just paper, films that I'll never use because the photos are stored digitally, that sort of thing. I love decluttering, me :D

    Thanks katsu!

KC the idea is to spend clothes money more efficiently, and rather than last minute shopping & grabbing something that's OK and you end up not wearing a lot, spend a little more time planning and buy less things that are really nice, that you will wear more. So over time the cost shouldn't be a lot higher, and you feel happier and more confident with clothes that make you feel good.

I don't want to derail DT's thread, but I think part of transforming our attitude to money is transforming our attitude to ourselves.

I'm worth looking after - not wasting a fortune on and I need to look after myself within my means - and I know enough to feel confident now that I can pick out a few treats every now and again, and know they will be worn and worn. I know it isn't wrong to buy clothes, but I know I don't need loads of them as what I have goes together and I try to look after it.

I'm sure that feeling better about myself means I don't reach for the wrong kind of shopping treats to cheer myself up. I'm not perfect but I've come so far in the last two years :o.

I think DT's quite happy with the clothes slant at the moment :D

DT have you thought of in 6 months time, planning another trip there with DH, but have a night away too? That way you can update the wardrobe, and also have some nice time away. You could check in advance that the same sales lady will be there. It's such a nice part of the country.

If you do, why not take photo's of what you've got already, then she'll be able to advise you best on how to fill the gaps.

P.S. Just thought, by then you'll have more of an idea of what clothes you wear most and least, so it will help in getting the balance in your wardrobe right for your lifestyle.

Hmmmm I've got enough "carp" in my wardrobe to fill a fishpond!! :rotfl:

Good excuse for Katsu to visit and carry out one of her deadly "clear-outs" when I am settled in new home! Maybe I will even begin to enjoy shopping for clothes when the treatment etc is finished (how many years will THAT take????) instead of thinking "oh it fits, that'll do". Don't mean that to sound as bad as it does, I am conscious of my appearance and my need to feel feminine etc, but the combination of chronic conditions, weight, disabilities and being bedridden for a long time have tested it to the limit!

House of Colour remains on my "to-do" list........;)

Sadly, I'm not just paying off debts - my business is quietly failing, and even cutting right down to the minimum, I'm not quite covering my outgoings. So no extension of the clothes budget for me - even when shoes wear through, I'll still wear them in the house, etc etc. Its getting a bit ridiculous, I may be about to have a change of heart and get my 2nd business idea to take off :o if it does, I guarantee you I'll be spending on quality of life.
