On Hypno's thread I have been dipping my toe into shopping for myself led astray by talk of Radley handbags and Gok Wan.
Just to paint the picture I never go shopping for myself until my clothes are literally in holes and then very reluctantly because I can never find anything that I like I just have to buy what vaguely fits and then I buy it in every available colour and run so that I dont have to go again any time soon.
On Thursday I reported that stage 1 of my transformation was complete because I had purchased a Radley bag and purse (in an outlet store and with a further 25% off) so not entirely non MSE.
Yesterday stage 2 was completed in that I drove almost 3 hours to a shop I had never been to before and thanks to a very wonderful woman there I now have a complete new wardrobe - she gave me all sorts of tips and I have never had so much fun in my life (me smiling when shopping for clothes unheard of my poor husband has suffered many shopping trips that have ended in tears) I used to be really slim and knew that I could look so much better - I may not have lost the weight but I know walk differently and am no longer ashamed to go out and that has occured in the last 24 hours my OH is delighted - it might be his birthday today but I am reborn as well. The lady in the shop even allowed me to go out for lunch in a complete outfit that I had not paid for and I went home in it too I could not bear to put on my old clothes (and I had put on the best that I had not my normal everyday garb)
There are still some minor stages to complete I need some more shoes and a makeup consultation and I have already decided to have something done about my hands and nails which are sorely in need of some attention but in comparison to what I have already achieved they are minor.
Yes I have spent a lot of money but I don't regret a penny of it and I shall be clearing out 90% of my old wardrobe because most of it is ghastly.
So not MSE but something I really needed to do and in future my budget is going to include a me section.

That is a lovely story DT! :T:T:T
I mentioned Gok on Hypno's thread. I think he's great. As well as having excellent taste, he really understands women's psychological hang-ups and addresses them. He's great at creating capsule wardrobes which suit the person's body type and lifestyle.
The shop owner sounds fab and Gok-esque - you will definitely go back there and spread the word too, no doubt. It is amazing what a small change can achieve, so do treat yourself to a manicure and other things too - you deserve it!
Have a good evening - hope Cherry is doing well0 -
Hi Macgirl thanks for your inspiration on Hypno's thread - I really would not have done any of this without the wonderful people on these forums.
I shall be going back to the shop but even better they do a roadshow every 6 weeks which is only just over an hour from me on a Sunday so very doable although the trip to Kendal was lovely could do with a weekend there - she recommended a fab restaurant as well so a lovely day with my OH and a new wardrobe doesn't get much better than that - except seeing my grandaughter being born - Cherry is lovely and doing really well - so pretty good last two weeks really I like being a grandma!

Wow DT that sounds an amazing experience, I bet you look fantastic and that kind of confidence boost is well worth the money.
What was the shop you went to and how did you find out about it? I'd love to have a shopping trip like that. I too hate shopping and never go, I live on hand-me-downs from a friend and emergency buys in charity shops. My wardrobe is really lacking and depressing.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620 -

I am a very definite plus size so limited where I can shop Seaxwyn so the shop I went to is Box2 they are online but I wouldn't have known where to start they only have 4 shops Brighton, Wimbledon, Watford and Kendal, I went to Kendal and to be honest when I walked in I couldn't see anything that I thought would suit me but as I had come so far I plucked up courage and asked for help initially things didn't go too well but she get her eye in so to speak as to what was likely to suit me and the combinations and tips she showed me would never have crossed my mind but they worked. They do various roadshows in the north and the midlands I have forgotten where you are from sizes 12-32. I read about it in Woman and Home which was obviously meant to be the first magazine I have bought in over a year Hope that helps.

DT just spotted your post on Hypno's thread. Brilliant news that the shopping trip went so well
MSE is about getting the best value for money for the effect you want to create too
I'm going to go in for some of the makeup makeover things as soon as I get back. Flying back on the 30th, so hopefully OK, but that volcano is still erupting, and pouring out ash, so who knows?
Well done on recreating yourself :T:T:T:T
Keep the good work up :T:T:T:T0 -
Seaxwyn,
I've transformed my clothes shopping and image through House of Colour who do colour and style analysis. It wasn't cheap - about £90 for a one day colour course and a little more (maybe £120) for a one day style course but you could pay in interest free installments over about 3 or 4 months, and don't have to do the two days together (you can just do a colour day, but as I didn't know what suited me I wanted clothes style too - I discovered I was wearing the wrong size clothes). The consultants also do shopping trips (I think they go with you for £40 per hour) and can recommend places for you to go on your own.
I was lucky to be able to afford it when I left a job and got paid for my outstanding holiday. Since then I've been able to get clothes that make me look fab without spending a fortune, because I know what is right and what is wrong. I shop in the supermarket, outlet shops and charity shops and can grab 3 random things (top, skirt and cardi) and they will nearly always look fantastic together. Have a look at http://www.houseofcolour.co.uk/image_services.htm if you are interested.
Hope it is OK for me to drop in with a recommendation - promise I'm just a convert, not on commissionDebt at highest: £8k. Debt Free 31/12/2009. Original MFD May 2036, MF Dec 2018.0 -
Katsu it is good to pass these things on I know if this lady had not helped me understand my style I would have walked out having bought nothing and what a waste that would have been - some people have a good sense of their own style but there are a lot like me who don't and don't know how to find it so all suggestions welcome thank you
