Cool, I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on it.
That battery life is certainly a killer; if I wanted a Mac with an 8 hour battery, I'd need two grand.0 -
It weigh in at an impressive 1.34kg but to make it funtional you'd need to carry around a vga/dvi adaptor, dvd drive, usb hub etc.I think you could safely say that would weigh more than the timeline by then. Besides which you need the power brick/cable to0 whereas you wouldn't need it with the timeline.0

Ah, the Lenovo ThinkPad X300; that was only a few hundred pounds more expensive than the MacBook Air, and had a much slower processor, less storage, a worse graphics card, and you had to pay extra to get the DVD drive that they supposedly "build in".
Bargain!
The only thing that illustrates is that as long as something doesn't have an Apple on it, it's apparently OK to charge what you like for it, but when Apple charge less for something similar, that makes them over-priced. :rolleyes:0 -

The adverts true though, good to see. Lenovo make expensive laptops. The timeline beats the air hands down that cant be argued.0 -
What by saying it looks better? Not a very convincing argument.0

No, I said they're different types of computers, aimed at different people who want different things.
For instance, I for one couldn't give two hoots if it has an optical drive or not. Aside from importing CDs into iTunes (which I wouldn't be doing on my laptop), I think I've used my computer's DVD drive two or three times in the last 6 months. If I had a laptop and I wasn't at home with it, I certainly wouldn't be carrying around a flight case full of CDs or DVDs. For me, it's a non-issue.
If I wanted something really small and light, I would buy something really small and light; if I wanted something big and powerful, I would buy something big and powerful. If I wanted something that fell somewhere in the middle, I would buy neither. Different strokes for different folks.
And yes, the MacBook Air does look much much much much better. :cool:0 -

If I wanted something small and light it'd be the acer aspire one, best netbook last year. Big and powerful the acer gemstone blue 8935G. Something middle the timeline.
For me its a waste of money, style over function, nearly twice the price for less than half the functionality. Its a no-brainer for me.
And the macbook air looks good but just not that good. I pretty sure that after a week I'd use its only real functionality and mail it back to apple for a refund.0 -

I'd get a MacBook. Or maybe a MacBook Air if I was feeling particularly flush.Big and powerful the acer gemstone blue 8935G.
I'd get a 17" MacBook Pro.Something middle the timeline.
I'd get a 15" MacBook Pro.For me its a waste of money, style over function, nearly twice the price for less than half the functionality. Its a no-brainer for me.
Clearly not; let's not pretend the Acer Timeline comes from some fantasy land where style meets value.
The only thing it has going for it is its battery life (which takes over three hours to fully charge btw, so I hope you give yourself plenty of notice if you ever want to use that big battery life). Aside from that, it's pretty mediocre, spec-wise.
You're paying more money for less of a computer because it's smaller and lighter, just as you would be if you were buying a MacBook Air.0 -
No fantasy land here, the macbook air is under mediocre spec wise the only thing it has going for it is that you can put it in an A4 envolope. The Acer is worth the money whereas the air isn't. I'm under no illusion about the timeline, unlike some about the air. Great battery life, functional, and does what I want of it whereas the air doesn't come close.
If anyone else had released a laptop that expensive with such a lack of well most things it wouldn't sell at all people would laugh at it. Apple get away with things others cant because apple are ultimately (apart from a few professionals) a lifestyle company.0
