It took me 6 months on the market to find a buyer who was willing to pay a price I was willing to sell for. I didn't really look at my house much on rightmove. I may or may not have sold earlier if I dropped my asking price further but I'm glad I waited around 6 months instead. I'd have waited round another 6 for this buyer or someone else willing to pay this price. And I still wouldn't have wasted time looking at my house on rightmove. So many better things to be doing while waiting to sell0

Notloaded i wouldn't waste your breathe, it occured to me that westlondonbuyer is simliar to someone else who wanted to start a heated discussion earlier in the year...the part we sold our pre marriage properties in a difficult market gave it away and i believe it is the same person that keeps causing trouble...
and yes this time i have acted as i said i would back then0 -
I think a lot of people are in your lucky position, Sonastin, and therefore can afford to sit back and get the price they want. That certainly seems to be the case here, where prices have gone very high, very quickly.
Many more houses are coming on sale nearby so I'm sure I'll find someone who actually needs to sell eventually!0 -
NEH, I'm not trying to cause trouble and I've not posted on here since I posted about choosing an engagement ring about two years ago (different username and password because I forgot them!) I'm sure there are a fair few people on here who've sold pre-marriage flats, too.0

I know that I might sound fussy but it just doesn't make sense to me to not sell - even if I'm biting my nail to nothing waiting for a buyer!
I don't think this sounds fussy at all. I'm renting a lovely house, but I still want to buy because I'm too fussy to be a tenant. We're actually just two sides of the same coin despite the determined efforts of other people on this board to suggest otherwise. Shame you're not in London.
One of the things I've noticed is that Rightmove has started doing a yellow banner for 'keen to sell' - I think the intention is to signal motivated vendors, but being yellow it also just makes listings stand out. Worth a try if you're not doing that already?0 -
No eager buyers have trampled us in the rush to buy relative's bungalow despite the £5K reduction in price last week. Will save worrying for the house we are meant to finalise buying on Friday.
DH is under the happy illusion that we now own the house as we exchanged ten days ago.I did point out that until the money was transferred over and we were given the keys - that was not the case! He seems to think that people wait outside a property with a removal van full of their furniture most of the day waiting to take possession for the fun of it.
Can't wait to get moved in - will shift boxes and clothes etc on Friday and have a couple of guys with a van to help with that and a removal van booked for Saturday morning.
As the vendors have changed their minds at the last minute on everything - I am not holding my breath! We last saw the house nearly ten weeks ago (only viewing) and got a second quick viewing cancelled at the last minute on Friday so don't know what to expect when or if we finally see what we bought.
Maybe rightmove should have a banner for people who consider a cash offer of 5% under asking price for a quick sale some kind of affront and that a quick sale is "twelve weeks or more".

Agree. I know people's circumstances vary tremendously, but I think consciously altering routine and finding distractions is so much better than just waiting.
With our business closed pre-sale, and not much to do when we didn't sell, we decided that as we would, eventually, move away, we'd try to visit unseen local places and do those walks we'd put off in the past.
It was a bit of an education, realising there were still lovely areas close at hand to explore, even after 25 years. Virtually everything we did was free or very cheap, and it became exciting, planning where to go next. We'd not enjoyed that kind of freedom for a long time.
Now, at the new place, there's so much to do again, we rarely go out for the day, and that won't change for a while. However, we still look back at that 'waiting year' with fondness. It helped us to re-focus our lives, and although it cost us money, I'd almost say it was worth it!0 -

Do let us know how you get on, when the dust has settled, of course!
Yours has been quite a saga, but I've admired your calm good humour throughout. I hope that you really enjoy living in your new home.0 -

It has been three years since we first put our house up for sale.
After our experiences I now take everything anyone says with a large pinch of salt and expect delays, misunderstandings, expense and confusion as a matter of course.
It's been "interesting" and quite an eye opener as I had not realised how many "Walter Mittys" there were out there - as both buyers and sellers.
Good luck to everyone else waiting to sell - it does happen eventually. The delays we had meant that when we saw a "one of a kind" house that had just come on the market , we were able to swoop on it and make an offer."This site is addictive!"

We've o nly been in thsi area 11 month before we're having to move on but after the shock of having to find somewhere new and waiting for our new rental to become available, we're visting some of the places we hadn't got around to in the beginning and most of them are free too, natural beatuy spots etc..Davesnave

What are Walter Mittys Elona? I'm intrigued now....:p
Thanks for the good luck...I think we're kinda getting resigned to the fate of renting now....I think now we've come to a sort of decision we're not as worried about the selling iyswim....0
