Here is an interesting article on domestic violence

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/relationships/domestic_violence/menhh_index.shtml

Here are some quotes from the article
Men have exactly the same rights as women to be safe in their own homes. All statutory services (such as the police, Crown Prosecution Service, housing departments and social services) have a duty to provide services to all, whatever their gender.
Men are protected by exactly the same laws as women - anyone who has assaulted another person, regardless of the gender of either, can be prosecuted.

Now I already hear you saying that men just don't come forward with claims of domestic violence because of the stigma
the 2001/02 British Crime Survey (BCS) found 19 per cent of domestic violence incidents were reported to be male victims, with just under half of these having a female abuser.

Thankfully not all men have a machismo self image and nearly 20% are ready to come forward. Good for them :T I hope their courage helped put an end to this disgraceful behaviour.

She is educated and will be able to get a good job, if there are any left when she wants one.

Which obviously must mean she's not having sex:rolleyes: contraceptive or not, there is always a chance of conception when sex occurs. The pill is 99.99% effective - which means that in every 100 women 0.01 get pregnant. Doesn't seem much until you think of all the millions that are on the pill.

btw, I am very educated and also had a good job prior to pregnancy - your statement seems to think that I should have been precluded from a surprise pregnancy:eek:

Virtually unique? Are you not going to stand by your guns and say it is always a woman who claims this?

It seems to me that you are stepping back from your claim of women getting preference and now stating that victims of domestic violence get preference and they happen to be nearly all women.

Semantics matter not. It's true. Take a trip down your LA's housing dept.

The discrimination is real, and no amount of statistical evidence will negate the truth.

All the evidence you need. ;)

Ahh the old use a different definition argument :)

I should have made it clear that I was talking about extra money from government bodies as was all the other examples - silly me.

If you want to nitpick though the PDSA does not provide any extra money but will provide treatment to some homeless people and people in receipt of some benefits (drug addicts per se are not eligible).

Just to make you feel a bit better - there are other charities who do actually provide pet food to the homeless :D

I can tell you I am speaking from personal experience so 'I don't know it'. I'm not going into the whys and wheres on here but beleive me, pregnant or not, you don't get whackd up the waiting list. And quite rightly so.

Then you live within an LA that has a very different housing policy to most.

Translation: I am a hard done by woe is me male and women are horrid hateful creatures, you can give me any hard evidence you want but I am sticking to my claim that women are harpies and men are innocent and hard done by.

The only evidence I need is the fact that some of the women in my life have been carp and that is enough for me to generalise to everyone else.

    :(

My point is that large groups of people believe that other groups of people get preferential treatment from government bodies.

A lot of men believe that women get preferential treatment because they are women.

A lot of whites believe that blacks get preferential treatment because they are black.

There is not evidence for this preferential treatment except the gut feeling of the person feeling it.
