its coming up with an error that says WMP cannot skip to that destination
  • Ok - what other DVD programs do you have on your PC other than WMP? Do you have PowerDVD or anything like that?

but it plays in real player and the sound seems perfect
  • Ok - you're one step ahead of me! Awesome...that proves it's not the software (ignore the WMP error - it probably doesn't handle VOB files). So I'm guessing it's the disc drive. Can you pop an audio CD in and play it and tell me whether it jumps?

nope it plays audio cds fine
  • Ok. My guess would be that something's happened to the DVD drive. We know it's not the speakers, we know it's not the PC, we know it's not the DVD programs, so it's got to be the drive.

Now, unfortunately, I don't know enough about DVD drives to know if there's any settings you can fiddle about with. But, I do know that DVD drives are pretty cheap (plenty of basic ones cost less then 30 quid these days - but it will be more pricey if the drive was a combo that writes too) so it shouldn't be too costly to replace if the worst comes to the worst.

You can delete the VOB file now, and uninstall DVD Decrypter (if you want to). It might be worth having a search on Google for something like "DVD ROM sound jumping" or something like that. But at least we know where the problem lies!

Out of interest - what film did you copy to the PC?

You can now pick up a combi DVD/CD Burner/Writer for about £30. a basic DVD rom is about £10. and also very easy to change.

i will certainly mention it to my boyfriend thank you :D
  • My pleasure...hope your OH appreciates all this that you've gone through to find out what the problem is!!!

One other thing that I can suggest...there are things called 'codecs' - your PC needs them so that audio and/or video play right on whichever program you have installed on your PC. It's hard to know whether perhaps yours have been lost or beome corrupted. You could download the Nimo Codec Pack from http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Nimo_Codec_Pack.htm and install it...it lets you choose which codecs it installs - you may like to try the default ones, or just choose the audio ones. No guarantees, but it's worth a try - it doesn't cost anything!!!
