  • I dont know if i can help but have you tried applying online for a Nationwide Flexaccount? I have read mixed reviews about them here on the forums but i tried every single bank going and not one would give me an account, even a basic one, even after discharge, they gave me one no problem and i personally think they are great, internet and phone banking as standard. Just a cash card but then i didnt expect anything else! Just a thought anyway. I did go with Thinkbanking for a while but they are not for me and they closed my account anyway cos i moved too soon after opening an account. I havent reopened it. Hope you can sort this out

    Again Thank you to everyone.

Lost2, and Philnicandamy, thanks for the links, interesting reading.

Seams very unlikely Co-op will take me as they are a creditor, turned down by Barclays! I guess I will be ringing all the banks to see if I strike Lucky.

Anyone have any experience of getting Housing benefit in any other way besides them sending me a crossed cheque in my name? (The landlords won't take it direct either!)

    Thanks

    Matt

    Hi Fatou

They stated that my "application did not satisfy their acceptance criteria for the product", whatever that means.

They go on to say "In reaching this decision, we made a search at Equifax"

    Thanks

    Matt
I had exactly the same thing happen when I applied to Barclays, I applied for cash card account and they did a credit check like with you. It seems that Barclays have changed their policy regarding bankrupts, which some people on here dont seem to be able to grasp
  • Nationwide gave me a cash card account even tho I am still in an IVA .You get all the banking facilities of a normal account just no cheque book or debit card, but standing orders etc are no different..

As a short term measure until you get a bank account sorted simply take any benefit cheques etc to one of those cheque cashing shops you find in the less salubrious areas of most towns.

And no, I don't know how it works!

You'll need to take some ID with you to open an account and they'll charge you around 6% commission but at least you'll get your hands on your cash. You'll probably have to wait until the cheque clears before you can collect your cash until they get to know you.

Thanks again for all the help.

Lots of different ideas to be looking into.
