Sounds like they may have tried to sign you up for a standard current account, hence the credit check.
I suggest you go in store and make it explicitly clear that you only want the basic cash card account and go from there.

The letter stated that it was for the card cash account, The branch saw that too.

    Hi

they should not have done a credit check but since they did, you need to get your Equifax credit record. That might show you what the problem is.

Can you get your giro paid into another person's account and then they get the money out for you?

Bear in mind that Halifax and C&G are owned by the Lloyds Banking Group.

Are you sure they knew you were applying for the cashminder account?

The application form was for the Cash Card Account and the letter states that.

Before BR I had a really good credit record so it is only the BR that has changed.

Ras, sounds like a good idea to check what equifax has said. Unfortunately there does not appear to be a way of doing that without an account to pay for it!!!!

you could sign up for equifax's 30 day trial (with someones debit or credit card) then cancel before the 30 days are up.....no charge then :D
