I am flying with Thomas Cook in June. I have not flown in 5years and in all honesty do not have a clue on what I can and cannot take. That’s including sizes. This is probably daft and obvious question but is there a comprehensive list any where? I never realised your hand luggage had to be a certain size either. Well obviously I knew it had to be capable of being handheld. Thanks for help :)

    alx,
I would not stress too much. the main thing is that any liquid/gels/creams can not be in a container over 100ml. you must have a small see through "sandwich bag" size details in above posts
dont know which airport your flying from but if you go on the baa.co.uk website, it will have all the details of whats not allowed including restricted articles. and check on the thomas cook airline website, that will tell you the max size of bag that is permitted on board.

Enjoy planning your jolly, dont stress too much about the airport

    Good advice from Aiden.
Actually Thomas Cook's dimensions for hand luggage are quite a bit smaller than most carriers, including Ryanair, Easyjet and BMIBaby, so don't get caught out.
  • Silly question but I was going to pop one of those small anti-bac spray thingies in my handbag. (travelling to US) It's only a 20ml tube but it says its flammable and i'm sure I read somewhere I can't take anything on a plane that is a flammable liquid, therefore couldn't take this. Is this right or am I having one of usual blond hair days? :) lol

    Anyone flying from Birmingham here is the list;

    http://www.bhx.co.uk/showpage.aspx?id=69

    Now - about sharp items!
    http://www.bhx.co.uk/showpage.aspx?id=70

Does this mean I can take unlimited safety pins?
I'm doing the Moonwalk in Edinburgh next weekend and need safety pins to attach my number to my t-shirt - don't want to rush around buying them up there when I land so can I take them in my hand luggage?

    Thanks :o

    Sorry to hijack,

Is it only ONE plastic bag you are allowed?

    Thanks!

Wherever possible you should pack liquids in your hold baggage, as there are restrictions on the amount you can take in your hand baggage.
    Liquids include:
    • all drinks, including water, soup and syrups
    • cosmetics and toiletries, including creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, mascara and lipstics
    • sprays, including shaving foam, hairspray and spray deodorants
    • pastes, including toothpaste
    • gels, including hair and shower gel
    • contact lens solution
    • any other solutions and items of similar consistency
If you need certain liquids during the flight, you can take them into the cabin in limited quantities as follows:
    • containers must hold no more than 100ml
    • containers must be carried in a single, transparent, re-sealable plastic bag, which holds no more than a litre and measures approximately 20cm x 20cm
    • contents must fit comfortably inside the bag so it can be sealed
    • the bag must not be knotted or tied at the top
    • each passenger can carry only one of these bags
    • the bag must be presented for examination at the airport security point
Containers larger than 100ml (excluding essential medicines) will not be allowed through the security point even if they are only part full.
    Lighters

One lighter per person may be carried on a flight. Lighters are considered to be liquids and should be put inside the plastic bag or screened separately. You must keep the lighter on your person throughout the flight.
It is very important that you do not:
    • place it in your hold baggage
    • return it to your hand baggage after screening
Essential medicines, including inhalers and liquid dietary foodstuffs

You are allowed to carry essential medicines of more than 100ml in your hand baggage, but you will need:
    • prior approval from the airline and departure airport
    • supporting documentation from a relevant qualified medical professional (eg a letter from your doctor or prescription)
Remember to take only what you need for your journey. Extra supplies and larger containers of medicine can go in your hold baggage.
    Baby food and baby milk
You are allowed to take baby food, baby milk and sterlised water in your hand baggage. This includes:
    • soya milk for babies
    • sterilised water for the baby (must be in a baby bottle)
    • formula, breast milk or cow milk specifically for babies
    • baby food of various consistencies
You are allowed to take enough for the journey. In some cases this may be over 100ml. The adult carrying the baby food or milk may be asked to verify it by tasting.

    Liquids bought at the airport

You can take any liquids you buy into the aircraft cabin after passing through security, as these items go through a separate screening process. This includes bottled water, wines and spirits and fragrances and cosmetics of any size.

    Thanks.

Although when I flew to Budapest I had two of these bags and that was only last month.

I'm not taking hold baggage as only going to work for a week and will be on 4 planes in the next week so didn't see the point in having to wait for a bag each of those times :)

I have in the last couple of years carried 2 bags of liquids, had wrong size bag, had wrong sized case, had a few too many kilos here and there but got away with it, I try to stay by the rules but I knwo if I get caught out one day it wil be my fault and will have to do the walk of same back to check in :D

Hi guys, i'm flying domestic on bmi on wednesday and though I do it 2/3 times a year I've never needed to take liquids on board with me till now (I don't take hold luggage - too expensive and i only go for a long weekend anyway).

Probably a stupid question but with the small liquids you take in hand luggage, do they have to be transparent too? For example i've put some body spritz in a v small clear travel bottle but i've got 2 very mini bottles of hair stuff that i need to take but they're in the original packaging.

Does anyone know if it matters about the packaging so long as their the right size??

    Thanks!

    Jem
