A very dear friend also has severe COPD, she gets regular flu and pneumonia jabs. I guess a severe bout of either could kill her.
But, she still goes for her check up.0 -

I suppose some people just don't think about the implications of things.0 -

Perhaps not - it hadn't crossed my mind either.
And just to make things worse she's been on holiday in India - was taken ill, with what they thought was pneumonia - came home and the docs said it wasn't pneumonia and they couldn't find anything. She obviously was ill and tired - after about a month back here she waiting for the results of a tuberculosis test. Hopefully it will be negative.
All she needs.0 -
I don't find these sock puppet muppetry posts amusing.
You make yourself look stupid, and make dervish look sane.
i had to make a minimum number of characters so i could post. my reply is highlighted within the quote.
blah blah blah was to fullfil the character requirements, it wasnt my response, did you read my views?. you look rather more stupid now.

You have to be very careful about infections when you suffer from lung disease. We become quite reclusive during flu season and certainly avoid crowded places and doctors' surgeries!
I hope the results of your friend's TB tests are negative.0 -
What exactly are you on about?
oh carp. now i do feel stupid indeed.:o thats a bit wierd though that your quote contained the 3 words in my post right above yours.
in my defence i had just done a long cycle ride in the heat and i was tired, which now appears to have translated to blindness.
cheers dude.0 -
excellent, the next you would suggest is gas the sick and injured. they are no good to the society anyway! why just that ,maybe run experiments on the scum, aka you know who!SCRAP IT!
Solution is simple - abolish the NHS - the tax that people lose from their incomes could get them private health cover. If some of the lower classes prefer to smoke, drink or inject their incomes instead of paying for health care then damn them. They make their bed and they can lie in it,
The money saved on the NHS could go towards tax cuts and improving other infrastructure improvements such as widening motorways and a better and larger armed forces.
larger armed forces to get into more unnessesary wars as dictated to us by others. better way of using all the money saved. more people into employment in the recession......you are just splendid.0 -

To you have a source for that?
Seems a bit of an exaggeration as that would require every non-clinical support post ("Infrastructure support" as they're called) to be in the top 25% of earners: I don't see many HR admin types out-earning consultants
Actually, there are way more non clinical staff in the NHS than there are clinical (all nurses, doctors, healthcare assistants, paramedics, pharmacists etc). The figures for 2007 are :
Total non medical staff : 893,087
Total clinical staff : 441,270
Of the non medical staff :
Support to clinical staff : 274,608
NHS Infrastructure support : 176,858
...rest is undefined as other non-medical staff.
Data is from Centre for Health and Social Care 2008 report
Also everyone moans about GPs earning a lot but here are the figures for Primary Care Health Spending for 2007: (figures in 000s)
Total Senior Managers & Managers £ 808,074
Total Medical Staff £379,779
Total Dental Staff £93,216
Total Nursing Midwifery & Health Visiting Staff £2,720,984
Total Scientific, Therapeutic & Technical Staff £1,005,470
Administrative and clerical £1,079,280
Healthcare Assistants and other Support Staff £195,796
Maintenance and works staff £21,859
Ambulance staff £5,008
Other employees £84,346
Chairman & Non-Executive Directors £42,281
Altho not comprehensive as money for staff and Qof etc come in seperately...Just an indication of how much money is spent on managers etc.0 -
Did I read somewhere that the NHS is the third largest employer in the world, after the Chinese army and the Indian state rail system?
I can think of no more damning indictment than that.0
