I don't mean to be the punctuation police but this would be so much easier to read if it included some full stops.0 -

I posted in a very courteous and helpful way; I'm sorry you didn't read it in that fashion.
Your last post was very difficult to understand and when someone aske for help (or gives it) it's vital that the whole situation is understood.0 -

you must have a huge phone bill if you keep 'accidentally' making phone calls!
I was overpaid tax credits and am now in my second year of paying them back, after which the debt will hopefully be cleared. The way I see it. I was given an interest free loan and am now happy to pay it back. They were very amenable to me making monthly payments and a direct debit was set up accordingly.3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
I think you have a month to appeal against any decision they make. If you have kept all the award notices and they add up with your p60 etc then they may have made an error in asking you to pay anything back.
Even if you do owe them money it states in their paperwork that they have to allow you enough money to meet your living costs when they agree with you how much you pay back.
Softly, softly approach with them. They could get really bloody minded if you get annoyed and threaten them with lawyers etc.

I have to say that in defence of the O/P the tax credit system is designed to overpay the claiments! You could provide the latest info and continually update the tax credit office of any changes and the system will still overpay you!
What most people do not realise is that the majority of people are actualy overpaid but that if it is below a certain amount it will not be reclaimed.
We had a 2 year battle with tax credits regarding a £480.00 overpayment from when I moved in with my O/H and her 3 kids. They claimed that she ws overpaid via her employer (as some of the credits were paid that way then). Working in accounts I was very aware of the requirements to allow the employer time to adjust payroll and after further investigation and a friendly chat to O/H payroll Manager it turned out that they issued the notice of change after 45 days and it was required before 42 days so it missed the payroll cutoff.
This got me looking into the claim further and despite being told that they could not make an adjustment to the joint claim to "repay" the overpayment, they had actualy made an adjustment to the joint claim as well. They then said we owed £385.00, so I asked them to breakdown the claimed overpayment and their breakdown only added up to £285.00. After escalating this to their complaints manager and requesting copies of ALL conversations between both of us and the Tax Credit office, they finally backed down and wrote off the overpayment and it was then that I was told that the system will always overpay the claimant and is designed to do so!Always get a Qualified opinion - My qualifications are that I am OLD and GRUMPY:p:p0 -
They accidently "UNDERPAID" me. I applied online one year some years back and we only get the smallest amount anyway. next thing I have a form through saying "no qualifying children". I then get on the phone and each time I am told we are sorting this out. Each time I rang them I then get an updated form saying "no qualifying children". This went on for 43 times and I now had 43 forms sent out from each and every phone call. I was then told to go to the local tax office with my kids "birth certificates:eek:". I was already going through lots at the time and I just gave up. 8 months went by and I left it at that until a friend of mine rang them for me and also got in touch with our MP. They then gave me the lump sum payment and also I got £60 in compensation from them. I know my tax credits were not much as we were working at the time but it was such a stressful time. Apprently this happened to lots of people doing this online. It was a flaw in their system. I have now had my tax credit form for this time and have to send it back again. This time it is all on paper but I often think what can go wrong this time. How did they accidentally overpay you?
