Wrong! It doesn't, having now had my free Three internet used up. I have the iPhone simcard and to activate I put it in my unlocked mobile phone, to which loads of texts came through. I then topped up £10 to the sim via the o2 website which was fine, and confirmed by text to the phone.
I have taken it out the phone now (it had signal in the phone) but when in my dongle, attached to my computer, the light is a solid red. I think this means no network (and when I try to dial it can't establish a connection). I have also tried putting in a Vodafone PAYT sim and that does the same. The only one which does work is the three mobile broadband sim which came with the dongle, but I'm not paying £10 for a gig.
The dongle is definitely unlocked (the firmware on it matches the firmware in the unlocking software) and drivers arew installed fine (I can still connect to three). Why is the light red when I can get a phone signal with the simcard in my phone?0 -

I've tried - even using the settings o2 recommend:
http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/srvs/cgi-bin/webcgi.exe?New,KB=Companion,question=ref(user):str(Mobile),CASE=19044
I don't think it's the connection settings as it turns red before I even attempt to connect... any more ideas?0 -
i would have said that o2 possibly know you are not using an i phone but with a vodaphone sim not working hmm , i would re flash the firmware on the dongle and try using telstra as in a previous post you indicated you were not .0

Thanks tightrs. It turned out a reflashing worked - how very strange! It still is red, and flashes red when connected, but I think the problem is there's not a very good signal in my flat. Still, it connects now which is the main thing (without the dialing software)
Thanks again!

Hey guys.

I asked the same.
I haven't had a chance to check it out yet, but if you go to TopCashBack or Quidco, and then to the 3 Store, you can get a dongel for £19.99, apparently with £20 cashback. Net cost = -1p
I hope to try this tomorrow, so I'll let you know if it tracks OK.
